I like your idea but youre limiting yourself to a specific type of connector.. unfortunately most gadgets come wtih cigarette lighter style plugs. Euro/SA/AU is more Hella style. Im a fan of upgrading to blue sea outlets. Ive never had a plug pop out on its own...I have upgraded a lot of my male...

Awesome! Home-made rivnut tools also work quite well with practice. Ive used them before. Sometimes you'll have to if its a hard to reach spot. Its a cheap and easy solution. Google or youtube will get you on your way if you need to go that route. Have fun!!
Most definitely invest in the exact size drill bit that you will need for each rivnut. Also be sure to deburr the hole and if possible paint or rust-proof the hole. Depending on the type of tool you use also helps. The mandrel on mine causes the lip on the rivnut to bubble up so I use a thick...
That black wire goes to the main battery negative terminal to read its voltage and activate the timer to open the solenoid allowing the aux battery to charge.
