When to trade up? The economics of "new" vs "old"

Enterprise had some great buys when Xi's Plague came about.

    New Bronco

I saw an Austrian couple with a Hilux ,quiet diesel, manual trans with a composite European cabover. It had oversize tires and an extended cab. No chance a domestic Tacoma could handle that weight. This truck moved out and cornered great in front of me. Who knows if it had frame buildup? I sure...

Quick Clot For First Aid Kit?

I carry Quick Clot in both vehicles as I have to take blood thinners. Fortunately I haven't had to use one but they come highly regarded.

    Full size wheelbase

There's wind resistance too. The tires are Toyo AT3's. Same tread,3-ply sidewall. The 285-75-17 are only 5# lighter. I checked both tires on the highway, straight ahead with my GPS. I wish my experience was the same. Diesel's killing us now.

    Full size wheelbase

I lost 1.5 mpg going from 285-75-17 to 35-12.50-17's. More mass to get going and a wider track with more tread drag with the same tread pattern and manufacturer.

F150 3.5L Ecoboost HDPP vs SuperDuty

Excellent post. The difference now is that you can tow an Ecoboost and get the same bad mileage. I hope this fuel comes down. It's killing the world.

    Can we talk coffee brewing?

Same here. I've got a can of Folgers. I don't drink anymore but when I did it was Michelob and a good shot of bourbon. Boring!

Perfect off-highway tire = LTX? What?

I had them on my wife's 2005 Honda Pilot. Real nice but at about 30K they got too loud for me. Part of the blame is the lousy road isolation properties on the Pilot that year. Silky smooth ride. I now have Cooper Endeavor's which are near silent and were $55 a tire cheaper. Real nice tire.

    New Bronco

I can hear the bearings screaming for mercy. On the other hand you always carry four firepits with you at all times. The rear Bronco control arms don't look real beefy but looks can be deceiving.

F150 3.5L Ecoboost HDPP vs SuperDuty

Ford's electric rack and pinion steering spooks me. No matter what the payload numbers state a 3/4 or 1 ton truck is overwhelmingly more capable to handle a camper on it's back or towing a trailer for that matter. I do have to laugh at the statement "doesn't know it's there." The accurate...

3 Weeks in Baja – Surfing, SUPing and Dirt Roading

The first time I went to the Wall was 1985. The rock formations sure have gotten more intricate. Waking in at medium/low tide without booties is fun. I can't surf with them. My buddy's the same way but crams his size 12's into the back of his wetsuit somehow until he goes in. :)

What to know before buying used Subaru Outback?

If you're tall like me 6'4" I can't even get into the door of an Outback and the seats are mounted too low to the floor like 4 Runners. I much prefer the Foresters but the seats suck IMO. My neighbor had to trade in his Forester for a six cylinder Outback for towing a very modest travel trailer...

Picking a truck to use for a custom build (1-ton vs. 2-ton, gas vs. diesel)

Diesel's fly compared to gassers but the price difference and extremely high cost of replacement is a negative.

Picking a truck to use for a custom build (1-ton vs. 2-ton, gas vs. diesel)

The 6.2 can't get out of it's way with that kind of load. The 7.3 can but it'll devour gas.
