Not bad. I still want to see more real wheeling footage

    2008 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab

Go with the 4600s. If you still have money burning a hole in your pocket, changing out the factory rear leaf setup for something more custom would make more of a difference. I have 4600s on my 2005 with almost 100k on them and they still rebound like they were new.

Help me pick a Toyota platform? Trying to decide amongst: LX/LC/GX/4R/Taco

It'll be interesting for sure. On one hand, even if they DO bring out some new utilitarian and more off-road friendly versions you know theyre going to be running high revving small displacement motors, probably with turbos in the V. Toyota does have a reputation for reliability but when the...

Something Completely Different : BC 2020

Man, this takes me back to 10 years ago when EVERY trip report was like this. Not just a post with a link to some blog or youtube video.

    GMT900 Suburban/Yukon XLs today

I see 19 highway no problem with my 05 1500 on 33s. Go straight to a Burb or Yukon XL if you want more interior space. There is no mileage penalty, just some extra wheelbase. GMT800 trucks are simpler if you can find one with ~150k or less in good shape. You don't need to worry about rust out...

    E Rated AT Tires

I have 60k on my 285/70-17 E BFG AT KO2s on my 1500, probably another 20k left at least. They're a little greasy when the road is first wet after a rain and are starting to get a little noisy, but no complaints otherwise. They do it all. Oddly enough, on my Discovery I blew two sidewalls on...

    GMT900 Suburban/Yukon XLs today

Watch out for AFM issues, mostly. The early 900s had the good 'ole 4L60E as well, so that trans is known not to hold up to abuse. If you can swing a later one with the 6 speed (2009+ IIRC) that'll be the ticket. Expect typical GM issues; rattles, creaking, etc and weird electrical issues that...

    Tacoma vs 4Runner TRD Off-Road

You literally said the 4.0 is used in cars. Its cool tho, Toyota best ever one and only.

    Tacoma vs 4Runner TRD Off-Road

The 1GR-FE is not used in any car. Only trucks and SUVs. Same with the 5VZ.

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

For driving 10mph down a beach? Great. You'd put your family in that and travel 65 mph for 1,500 miles though? I'm trying to not get flung across traffic when I hit the brakes and the axles reject themselves from the chassis because all thats left of the bolts holding them in place is brown dust...

Best full size SUV under $7,000

Expeditions were IRS once they switched body styles from the first gen. Solid axle in the GM stuff until 2021. You can swap a 4L80, but it isnt worth it IMO... a reputable rebuild with some HD parts will be more than adequate if it goes out. I have 170k on mine, original trans and rear end.

Best full size SUV under $7,000

Best condition 03-06 Tahoe you can find. The transmissions and rear ends are perfectly fine if you dont beat on them, and if they go rear ends are a dime a dozen in junkyards and bolt in upgrades are cheap. And any trans shop can rebuild a 4L60E with their eyes closed. I know less about the...

Another Road trip: TX-NM-AZ-UT-CO-TX, July 9th to July 22, 2020

There's usually more people? I did a really similar route in June 2010 and while places weren't empty the passes definitely weren't full of people. I did Imogene on a Friday according to my pictures and I think I saw 2-3 other vehicles.

Thoughts on the new Tahoe Z71/Yukon AT4?

I'm a chevy guy. I'd never buy a new GM, the Ford trucks are doing everything better recently. This is nothing but some decals and a marketing package. I'm sure the traction control will prohibit any real off road ability, but we'll see what happens when it gets tested. That being said, I'm...

    New Bronco

F150 is a great pick. I'm not a pickup guy and having been in one for the last 3.5 years I'm ready to move back to a wagon. Though its been pretty helpful with house projects, I'm just about done with the big ones for a while.

    New Bronco

Yup same. If it ends up over budget or too small, I’ll probably end up in a 4Runner.

    New Bronco

The rear is the same AdvanTEK 44 in the rear of the JLs, and the same M190 front axle as the Ranger and ZR2. You get the big nasty M210 front (D44 center) with the TT V6.

    New Bronco

The wheelbase and rear end design increased the Gladiator's tow numbers, not just the grille design. The grill was primarily for cooling, and is being carried over to new models years in all trims, or maybe just the ecodiesel and turbo? New Defender can tow more bc its IRS and has air...

    New Bronco

I couldnt find the payload, if thats true that isn't bad at all. I don't need to tow more than 3500lbs, and if I did I'd be getting a truck instead.
