What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

Sorry, cacattack, but I bought only exactly as much as I needed: a one-foot cut from a 36-inch wide roll gives four flaps 12 inches long and 9 inches wide. Good luck with your project!

    Gen 2.5 fabricating transmission skid

I'm not sure that you need to worry about this. Mitsubishi have already proved that these things are built very strongly...why would the OEM skid mounts be different? Having said that, I did add additional mounts for my homemade armor, mainly because I'm a self-taught metalwork guy and it was a...

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

I made a set of 4 mud flaps and installed them today. I've wanted to for a while and this last trip to Montana provided some additional incentive with lots of sharp gravel being thrown up from the tires. I wanted them longish and very flexible, similar to what European rallye cars use. My...

No, actually...I've been up in the Pacific Northwest for my entire adult life. I've visited down there, but maybe someone in SD has a rig similar to mine?

I just had my follow-up appointment today with the opthalmologist after getting a piece of steel removed from my cornea. How to determine safe limits for sidehill driving?

On a recent trip in our Montero, my wife and I started up an old 4x4 road on a grassy slope. It soon became apparent that the left side of the trail was getting lower and lower with respect to the right, and the trusty Montero was taking on more of a port list than we were comfortable with. So...

Prospective 3rd gen Montero buyer: specific questions about a few issues

If the driveline has ever been out of the vehicle, a u-joint may have been installed out of phase. That happened to one of my ambulances and the vibration was startling. Of course, tires can (and frequently do) yield the exact symptoms you describe. As for what the used car lot guy said, bear...

Replacing Front Wheel Bearings on Gen III

Thanks, I enjoyed doing it. I think that Rock Auto had the best price on those. As for quality, as LTDrus says, you can go for name brand and hope for the best. Frankly, wheel bearings are pretty generic...they aren't the part of the Mitsu that has earned the reputation for strength and durability.

    2003 Mitsubishi Montero flashing cdl

Yup, I did it with front wheel ramps and a jack under the transfer case. It's really not that it's terribly heavy (it's sort of balanced by the weight of the engine, which lifts up as the drivetrain drops), but that it's awkward and you want to control its descent. Nothing bent. It drops down...

    2003 Mitsubishi Montero flashing cdl

Yes, that's it. You need to be careful taking the cross member out because it actually supports the transfer case. As you loosen the last fasteners the whole thing will want to drop. Being bolted to the transmission, the entire engine/trans/XC moves...it pivots on the engine mounts. The drive...

Sabre's Gen III Phase II: Roof Rack, More Armor, Sleeping Platform

This weekend I fabbed up an adapter to mount the spare a little higher and farther back. This last trip we did was the first with the Trasharoo installed, and it was nearly impossible to access the straps with the spare being so close to the bodywork. Also, the spare rubbed on the top of the...

    2003 Mitsubishi Montero flashing cdl

First, everyone has cheap, easy access to both reading and resetting their fault codes with the inexpensive bluetooth OBDII readers that are widely available. Add a smartphone and an app such as Torque and you're all set. Second, replacing the five switches on the top of the transfer case...
