    Gen 3 debate, 3.5 or 3.8?

Earl, that's a no-name aluminum rack that I picked up on Craigslist for $20. While it did the job I wanted it for, it was overwhelmed by the stupid weight up there (spare tire, hi-lift jack, two fuel cans, etc) combined with endless corrugated roads in roaming around the west. I've welded up a...

    Gen 3 debate, 3.5 or 3.8?

I have a 2001 Ltd and agree with what's been stated. Yes, it rears up on three wheels quite a bit, but that limited-slip rear diff is truly amazing. I have the same size tires as Inyo_man (265/75 16) and in an all-terrain tread...am quite happy with the ground clearance and amazed at the...

    Body Lift or not?

Are you happy with the tires? Happy with the clearance upon articulation? No reason to send your COG even higher unless there's a compelling reason to do so. The truck looks great.

Moonroof Woes…or are they Sunroof Woes

This really isn't much of a project. You reach up and grab the headliner at the front edge of the sunroof and pull it down (it's held up with velcro in that area). It takes less than ten seconds to see if your motor is coming adrift.

Moonroof Woes…or are they Sunroof Woes

All of you with Gen III vehicles have either already dealt with this or surely will. It's so easy to check & take preventive steps, and such a PITA if you don't.

    Montero build

You can spend a fair bit of time reading through this section of the site, as well as perusing the Mitsu section of 4x4wire. All will become apparent.

All manufacturers cite conservative weight limits, and the difference between dynamic and static loading is enormous.

My Alabama 1998 Gen 2.5 BUILD

Did you follow the instructions in the service manual? How about doing a bunch of research online before tearing into it? Really, all this information is readily available. The configuration of the OEM sound system is widely known. I don't know what to say about dumping a bunch of cash into...

What years montero is the best

With your wife as the primary driver during winter weather, I'd definitely go with a Gen III (2001 and later here in the US). More car-like comfort and handling with the 4-wheel independent suspension and nice interior amenities & comfort. I originally wanted a Gen 2.5 but end up with a 2001 and...

    2003 Montero Non-build thread

If your Monty is indeed engaging the lower range, then your center diff should be functioning, whether or not the light is misbehaving. Virtually all (Jhill15's experiences with wheel sensors notwithstanding) of these problems in the Gen III's transfer case can be accounted for by those five...

    General reliability question

Bottom line: Land Rovers are highly-capable offroad vehicles, praised by their owners for their prowess and for (traditionally, anyway) being quite simple to work on. Virtually all Japanese vehicles are known for their reliability. Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and others make excellent trucks...

    3rd gen montero/pajero questions

I've seen a variety of information out there about this. My '01 Ltd requires the special LSD diff oil; is that necessary with a straight Torsen? Most of the info from Mitsubishi describes a "torque-sensing" LSD in the NM model. Other documentation describes a "hybrid LSD" which combines the...

    3rd gen montero/pajero questions

Yup, all clutches do eventually wear out. Keeping the diff serviced regularly with the proper oil will prolong its life, but sooner or later.... Nope, no idea how long!
