    2000 Montero 2.5 w/ 34K Miles in Utah

I wonder about the damage he describes. It looks like the driver's door has been sprung at some point.

Soooo, I'm thinkin' hard about a montero purchase...

Yeah, I'm a popular soccer dad who can take half the team to practices!

Soooo, I'm thinkin' hard about a montero purchase...

You pop off the headrests, the back folds flat, then the entire thing rotates on its axis and disappears into the floor. It's a simple matter to pull it out if you want more storage space. The remaining storage well (we call it "the basement") has enough room for a chainsaw, lots of tools...

Soooo, I'm thinkin' hard about a montero purchase...

The Gen III 3rd row seat is a bench. It folds down into a storage well under the rear floor and is quickly and easily removed altogether for increased cargo capacity. Prior to that they were split seats rather than a bench, and folded up against the side panels in the back.

Looking at Monteros....where to start and what to look/look out for.

You've just described the exact target of the Montero's prowess, especially the later (Gen III) models. They are certainly as comfortable for cross-country trips as anything out there, and much moreso than most. They can do a surprising amount of stuff with no mods at all, and mine did all sorts...

Laforza..the Italian stallion? Italian SUV with a Ford 5.0 (not mine)

Damn, that thing is uglier than homemade sin. Looks like a poorly-executed kit car.

    Montero GenIII

The Gen IIIs are 100% Japanese, certainly. Each generation of development saw further improvements. They started out strong and reliable and only got more so as they evolved. They have always been known for, and still are, their dependable engines and bombproof drivetrains.

    01 montero limited 4wd problems

If the transfer case hasn't been used much, it will drive you bananas until you exercise it a lot. My '01 Limited had definitely never been off the pavement, and, being a rig from the desert, had likely never seen much (if any) 4WD use. Consequently, the orange center diff light and green lights...

    What do ya'll think?

Thoughts? I see a lot of vehicles advertised with the wrong year. There was no SR in '99. The flashing lights might just be a quick adjustment, provided that the actual transfer case function behaves correctly, but it might be expensive for you. Using coolant? Listen, it's not evaporating...

Welcome, Preid! That Shogun of yours would get a lot of attention here in the states! Really a smart looking little rig.

    04 xls opinion

For what you describe, I'd say that the '04 is a no-brainer. It's an extremely comfortable truck with plenty of room and more than enough off-pavement competence. My family loves my '01 for its comfort and roominess, and it always impresses in the rough stuff. If the rig you're looking at passes...

Need help moving RTT from Boulder to Pacific Northwest

One of the ExPo family is selling a rooftop tent that I want to buy. The only problem is that he's in Boulder, CO and I'm in the Pacific Northwest. If anyone is planning a trip and would be interested in picking up a couple of hundred bucks to help with gas, I'd be extremely grateful. Happy to...

Toyota FJ 62 Land Cruiser 1990 Restored

It is a really tasty-looking rebuild; I've always loved the 62s and this looks like a thoughtfully-done update. If I were thinking about buying this, I'd offer the guy $2K less and tell him to pull the new wheels & tires and sell them separately, pointing out that aftermarket parts always fetch...

Hey Alex, that's a great looking Gen III! I'd like to do the same thing with a winch on my '01, retaining the OEM bumper. What's the info on that set up?

anyone see these new water cans?

I have three of these exact cans and love them. A couple of things.... 1) They are rotomolded plastic and, like all rotomolded items, need a bit of trimming. Five minutes on the kitchen counter with a sharp knife and the extra material was trimmed away from the vent openings of all three cans...
