Got a 2.5! Need some help!

If it's like my Gen III, you'll find that the lights are a bit fussy for a while...sometimes behaving, sometimes not. The previous owner of mine had never used the system at all! I spent some time cleaning things up a bit down underneath the front end (which helped), but the only thing that...

ANOTHER Guy With A Gen 2.5 Build - Sure, why Not? It's My First!

I'm with you; the heavy stuff is built hell-for-stout but it's just a ton of weight that the vehicle doesn't need. Cutting down the OEM bumper would be an interesting place to start. There are a lot of examples of minimal bumpers, whether tube or plate, that allow for proper recovery points...

Monty in Moab, trails to take?

My wife and I really enjoyed the Eye of the Whale trail in Arches. Nothing off-camber at all. The White Rim is incredible and not technically challenging at all. We did it in June with temps up to 111 degrees. It wasn't unpleasant at all. You know, it's a dry heat.... Seriously, one of the...

    EBay, CL and other things

I find more important than the search term is the "non-search" term. You can put a minus sign in front of a word that you want to avoid. For example, I can look for stuff for Montero Gen 2.5 by specifying something like this: montero -sport -93 -94 -95 -96 -97 -01 -02 -03 -04 -05

    Eurosonic's Montero 2.5Gen Build Thread

There's no appropriate smiley for dying from carbon monoxide poisoning. Fresh water shouldn't be a big deal. I'd be more worried about the dead guy on the roof rack.

    Am I crazy?

Are you crazy? It's likely that you're not. You already know that a high-mileage Monty is likely to need a certain amount of renewal. On the other hand, fastidious ownership could result in a vehicle that has been maintained in a state of ongoing renewal. $3500 would be too much for that...

Hitch options for a Gen III?

Mine was sourced online, made by Valley Industries, who make hitches sold under several brand names if I'm not mistaken. The price was great, shipping was free, and it was an easy bolt-on. It really doesn't hang down all that much. We really pushed the old Gen III in Moab last year, including on...

    Restored FJ in Scottsdale, AZ

It's a nice-looking rig, other than a few odd monstrosities such as that steering wheel. Pity the guy doesn't comprehend the word "restoration." Over $100K spent on it? Eek.

    Monteros on craigslist

That first link, the white Gen II.5, doesn't look like it has the rear locker. Yes, it was an option on the '98 and '99 Gen II.5 models (in the USA). I've seen a couple with a little indicator light in the space normally reserved for the switch, and that looks like one of those.
