    Big Dave's M416 Build

I keep forgetting to take pics of the latches and hinges for you guys, sorry. I did order up some gas springs from McMaster-Carr today though, plan to get that all situated next weekend as we get ready for our week-long Ouray trip that we leave for 2 weeks from today. My wife also ordered up...

Jeep Launches Wrangler-Inspired Off-Road Camper Trailers

I was thinking the same thing, but was having troubles conveying it as "politely" as you did. I do this stuff to get AWAY from the majority of society.

    Jacks

Got some similar ones at Harbor Freight for mine today. Two for the back, one for the front.

    Mombassa mounting

I didn't use a rack to mount mine, but still used the aluminum channel that came with the tent.

    Sleeping in the XJ

What trails are you planning on running where you can't take the trailer with you? Most of the trails in CO that you wouldn't want to drag a trailer through are in and outs where you could leave the trailer at the trailhead.

It's the Mombasa 71x94. Got it from TRDParts4U, not sure on their current pricing.

    Big Dave's M416 Build

Took it out yesterday after work to test everything out, worked very well. Really need some struts for the lid though. Random piece of tube that works perfect for propping up the lid Pulls nicely behind the rig, noticed it a bit more with the lid and tent than without though

    Big Dave's M416 Build

Got the tent all mounted up tonight, but by the time we were done it was too dark to get pics. Might be able to get a couple tomorrow, but we're taking it out Saturday we'll definitely have some then. I gotta say, the lid and RTT, holy heavy!!!! No struts on it right now, and it takes a LOT...

    1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hmmm, never really had an issue with my 95. Routinely stays well under 210 even out in the heat in Moab.

Tacking in the cross bars Fully welded, and they pass the test Lid skin Had to do the skin in 2 pieces since I couldn't easily find one piece that was big enough Couple quick tacks on the underside to tie the skin in to the cross bars and a couple on the outer rim too bondo on the skin...

    1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Drawbacks: Dana 35, early 249 case, and unibody. Those can each be major or minor depending on how you plan to build the vehicle. The WJ is more refined than a ZJ, and IMO one of the nicest vehicles Chrysler has ever put out. Very well mannered on the road, still solid axle, and the...

    1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 94 CAN be a good platform. The 96-98 V8 models make a little better starting point in my opinion, but it really depends on your plans for a build. For any amount of sustained wheeling of any difficulty, the 93-95 V8 models will need a rear axle swap and a t-case swap. The 35 is a ticking...

    Big Dave's M416 Build

Got the crossbars for the lid welded in tonight, then we were finishing up a couple more spots when the welder started giving us fits. Hopefully we can figure out what the deal is tomorrow and get this done, we want to go camping next weekend.

    Hydroplaning KM2s

Last weekend I purposely ran my ZJ on 35" KM2's into about a 3-4" deep puddle in the road at 45mph specifically to see how they would do. The puddle was about half of the intersection (roads were empty, don't worry safety sally) and I had no issues. Not quite as good as my F250, but certainly...

    Big Dave's M416 Build

Going totally from memory here, but I think the tub is approx 54" wide x 71" long. The RTT folded is approx 47" wide x 71" long, and then 94" wide (will technically use this as the length) when deployed. I'm hoping my latch and hinge idea works. The hinges are supposed to show up tomorrow so...

    Budget Boost questions

Ran a budget boost on my ZJ for years and it did really well. My only concern would be still using the original coils that are now 12 years old.

    Big Dave's M416 Build

It lifts easily for me now as is, but by the time more supports, the skin, and the tent are added that might be a bit much. Definitely looking to get some struts for it before it's "finished" so my wife can get in there too. I don't think it will be beyond what I can lift by myself when it's...
