The QuadraDrive works well in slick road conditions on road with smaller (stock to slightly larger) but it's not a huge advantage after that.
I'll probably get a WJ as a DD at some point. I really like the ZJ, but finding a low mileage one is damn near impossible and having owned 2 w/ 150k+ on...
I have a Crew Cab short bed F250 for my tow rig, and outside of Poughkeepsie, Black Bear, and probably Corkscrew you should be fine. The width won't be an issue really outside of passing oncoming traffic, but the length and poor turning radius will make some of the switchbacks and more...
Outside of the ZJ getting a little warm pulling the trailer, it did great on our trip this last week. Here's a shot of it coming down Imogene Pass towards the Camp Bird area.
Dump a can of pie filling in the dutch oven, spread a bag of yellow cake mix on top of the pie filling. Then spread some butter around the top of that, and let it go for about 30 minutes. Justin had seen it done once, but he was a bit inebriated at the time, so he wasn't 100% sure on how it...
Justin wanted to try going UP the line he went down before. We had discussed it the night before, and it all really was hanging on whether or not he could get the front passenger to climb the wall being open/open.
This is about as far as it got up the wall, needed just a bit more.
So we...
Oh Point on Engineer Pass
Summit of Engineer
We took a quick detour on our way back up Cinnamon Pass into American Basin, another very cool area. After summiting Cinnamon we dropped down into Animas Forks.
Our camp was just below the trailhead to Poughkeepsie off Mineral Creek, so we...
This was probably the tightest of the switchbacks
Jump it!
Bridal Veil Falls
We headed back to camp where it rained again pretty good for a while. We broke camp in the morning and headed up over Imogene Pass.
It was a pretty long pull up the pass, and we had to pull over for a...
Got back today, awesome trip. Not quite as remote as our trip last year, but still an awesome time nonetheless.
We headed out last Sunday morning. Justin had some trailer tire issues, but we still made good time to Colona (between Montrose and Ridgway) where we dropped trucks and trailers...
Originally ordered 2x 175lb springs and those helped, but weren't quite enough. Bumped it up to 2x 225lb springs and they work well when the tent is deployed by not quite enough when the tent is packed up.
The option to buy a manufactured trailer was never even one I really considered. I certainly looked at them for ideas in my build, but never considered buying one. Are they worth the price that companies like AT ask for? IMO, absolutely.
I had abandoned the expedition trailer idea altogether...
Crappy cell pic of the hinge setup.
The tub side mount is made of some 2x2 and 1.5x1.5 angle I had laying around. The gap between the tongue portion of the lid side is filled with random plate I had around cut to size and ground down to be at least somewhat smooth.
I got 3 out of your 5 reasons for about half an hour worth of work. You still need to buy the axle for the homebrew trailer anyways, so there's no difference there.
If you want to spend a bunch of time cutting and fitting parts to build your own, go for it. I found it a lot easier to buy an...
I don't find the spring over on mine to be unpredictable, but it is a bit taller than I'd like for 33's. If you modified the fenders a bit you could probably make them fit SUA, maybe a little longer shackle too?
Those holes will be pretty easy to patch too. I'd cut out a little beyond the...
I just took a break from planning our route for when we're down there in a couple weeks to jump and ExPo and I find this . . . man I'm ready to go now!!
