Lookin' good. Does the FJ hitch not give enough clearance for one of the adjustable pintle hooks? My M416 sits a bit high behind my ZJ so I was just going to get one of the adjustable units. Also, I would recommend adding some fish plates and a small cross member in your tongue to spread out...
Grabbed a few of these tonight too. The HD near me probably still had > 20 left. At first I got the "why do we need ANOTHER storage box? we already have plenty" speech from my wife. She's warming up to them though, especially with the slots to secure the lid and the tub. They definitely...
If you're just going to do the budget boost, I would not recommend going to a 265/75R16 or 32" tire. I have done that on 2 different ZJ's, and while I don't mind the trimming required to make them work, it's a little too much for most.
Actually only the TJ Rubicons used the MT/R's. The JK version utilizes a variation of the BFG MT KM.
How was the power from the engine? If they would put a hemi or even the 4.7 in one of these from the factory I'd be beating down the door at the dealership to get one.
x whatever on Rocky Road.
KOR or IRO will both get you taken care of very well. Kevin from KOR is a good friend of mine and I've spent several thousand with him over the years.
A budget boost will be a good start, but eventually you will want to go bigger. Especially seeings how the budget...
That's going to be too narrow. With your wheel and tire choice, you can estimate that the inside edge of the tire will be 5.75" inches to the interior of the WMS. With a 52" axle, your frame will be 5.5" inches to the interior of the WMS.
I think that'd be plenty. I have a Miller 175, and really only need to turn it up when doing major things for the Jeep like suspension brackets or armor.
The only downfall I experienced on a 300 mile dirt trip with my M416 was when I had to backup on the trail, but after a little practice that wasn't even that hard.
My ZJ has a healthy V8 in it, so on the roads I had no problem at all. On the trails, I found myself using 4-Lo a little more than normal though. Mostly for the compression braking with the added weight, but I really didn't notice a considerable difference in power.
Near Deer Creek and Sts John area.
South of Taylor Pass
Just crested Pearl Pass
On the way up Pearl Pass
On the way up Taylor Pass coming out of the creek
I most likely won't do an RTT on mine, but my M416 helps overcome some of the shortcomings of my rig for expedition type adventures. Up until a year ago or so, I had spent 8 years building my rig exclusively for crawling big rocks. I also made a dumb mistake and hacked off the back end of my...
We started out on the 22nd, made it into the Tincup area on the 25th, so we probably got there right after you left. We saw very few other 4x4's the entire time, mostly dirt bikes and ATV's.
We had originally planned on wheeling yesterday as well and not coming back until today, but we were all freaking exhausted by the night before last. So we took our time breaking camp yesterday and headed back into BV and on to Denver.
All in all it was an amazing trip with some great friends...
