2003 Suburban 1500 Pop Top Conversion

So got a little more work done over the weekend. Wired the interior and put it on the roof to take a couple more measurements. Gotta say I'm pretty happy with the outcome, minus this horribly blurry photo.. And did some tests of the lights. Pretty good output! You can also see the inter...

Thanks Mushin this is what I like to hear! Maybe Ill change my estimate to two years ha. My thoughts exactly on the tan and black combo. Unfortunately I am not going with tan canvas. It would have added about 200 dollars to the already outrageous price tag of the canvas. So it will be light...

You know curiosity just got the best of me too... and not being able to find a warm light LED flood ANYWHERE, regardless of price. These are about 4-5k on the ol scale, can't stand the 7500k at night. Will be really interesting to see how long they last.. bets? I give them 1 year.

Thanks Fiddy, definitely agree with the need for a thick base layer. Went with the 2 inch, firmest foam they had at foam factory, will keep you posted. You make a valid point and the short answer is that I'm trying to finish this as fast as possible and this seemed like the easiest option. And...

Rayra that will look pretty good I think! your mods always impress me. Fiddy those mattresses look great. Would actually do exactly what you described if I didn't have to custom cut a size. And ya leaving it up there permanently. Did a little work this morning and cut out my rear cigarette...

CO, UT, NV, OR, CA - Timelapse Video

Now I know I said video but this is actually a super 8 film that I made while driving around the west in July. Not your typical overland trip report but I thought I'd share it here with you guys anyway. For most of these 3,800 miles I was traveling solo in my 2003 suburban, starting in...

MonstaLiner done Scarcely Noticeable is pretty darn good. I can only hope to get to that level. And ya some mounted defense machines would be sweet haha. Seriously though I like the rear opening so much that Im already thinking about how to put a pop open door back there to stand out of.. that...

Also wanted to share a couple photos from yesterday. Started out as a nice little saturday trip to 4th of July Bowl above Nederland then we ran into this: Not sure if you heard about the fire here in Colorado but was pretty nuts. At one point we were seeing 200 foot high flames. We were the...

Thanks Mushin, still surprised its working.. thus far.. And trying to figure that one out now justbecause. I think that I will have enough space to leave at least the 2 in foam up there and you're right I like it for the winter! Going to do some measurements today. Rayra, its been a long...

2003 Suburban 1500 Pop Top Conversion

Would love the compatibility of an air mattress but blowing one up is about the last thing I want to do after driving all day so Im thinking I am going to get the 2 inch memory foam and add a 1 inch or 1/2 inch dense foam underneath if I need it. Ordered some jeep hood latches yesterday for...

You know I really like the color of that roof shade.. I just went to sherman williams and got some polyurethane metallic silver paint. Its actually about to be sanded off here soon. I decided that I wanted to go with the monstaliner instead of lineX and so i got 2.5 gallons of the stuff and went...

Bit of an overdue update here. Ive been plugging away at finishing the inside of the shell and its proving to take way longer than I imagined. First though I sanded down the outside and put a coat of silver automotive paint on to see how id like silver for a color and to give it some UV...

    RPhil's Excursion

Great looking rig! and I hear ya tom, was on mineral mountain trail last night/ 505 from elder to caribou and it sure would have been tight in my suburban (was on dirtbike). Always liked the excursions though and big difference the shocks made, can't stand a sagging vehicle..

Adding power ports & switches, on my GMT800 Suburban

Rayra, I just cut a small 2 in by 2 in square in my rear door panel to access the level that opens the door so I can get out from the back. Ill try and put up a photo when I take one, as well as updating my building thread with these sorts of thing. Its nothing fancy, but if you can get over a...

Building a roof rack deck on a GMT800 Suburban Z-71

You did it! And I have to say it is very sleek looking, hardly noticeable at all from a standing level I presume. Curious to see how long that paint lasts or I suppose how long the wood lasts. If you lived in oregon I would have said definitely use epoxy, but I think youll be okay for a long...
