I was curious after I read this so I paid more attention. I was a little high on my guestimate.
68 MPH with 35's & 3:55's:
But, you're right if towing our RV it barely affects the RPM's. Lots of torque down low. That's what made me switch from a 5.0 to the 3.5. Thinking when these wear...
I drive in 4HI on the highway everyday in winter which usually consists of dry / snow / ice covered sections. Usually around 60 - 65 which is the speed of traffic flow - depending on conditions of course.
I've always kind of wondered what the appeal of an RTT is. Like you said, it's always attached to your vehicle, you have to climb in and out of it, more expensive than a ground tent and usually smaller. Ease of set up is what I always thought. But as you said, there are easy set up ground tents...
I keep going on Ford's build and Price and keep building those XL's with the off road pkg in the bronze color.
Then I look at my avatar and realize that it's probably too big for the off roading I want to do, just like my current truck is.
So, @rcintx as @ChasingOurTrunks our trunks mentioned...
If your specifically looking at the smaller 6's for fuel economy, the V8's get about the same. Might be easier to sell down the road too. If it's just an up front cost savings thing cause the trucks are good deals, either engine will be fine. Buy whichever truck seems to fit you better. Drive...
Huh. I never knew about the +91 octane boosting HP / Torque numbers. Most stations around here carry 87, 89 then it jumps to +93/+94. I'll have to try filing up with +93/+94 next time I'm headed out towing our trailer and see if I can notice any difference in torque when towing.
I would think for that size trailer you'd be fine with a 1500. What's the length?
My previous set up was a 5.0L powered F150 towing a dual axle 22' trailer that weighed similar to yours.
My payload on that truck was 1,800 lbs and even with the box loaded with firewood it was fine. The baby...
Good point. But usually comparatively equipped 2500's are more expensive to purchase.
You'd have to factor that into the cost of ownership as well as potentially higher insurance and registration costs depending on where the OP lives.
Yep. When I loaded up the box with firewood for a week of camping and filled the water tank in our new to us trailer for the first time, it was an eye opener. No clue what actual weight was as the onboard scale doesn't tell me. It just cuts out measuring when you hit max payload.
This was also...
I think the diesel comes with a payload penalty over the gas engine. So watch your payload if you're towing a 7,500 lb trailer. I have no clue what the typical payload numbers are for a Trial Boss Duramax. But it does look like an intriguing truck. If you tend to travel with family and have...
Yep. Agree on Duratracs for snowy / icy / patchy winter roads. Switched out to Toyo AT3's cause my Duratracs got loud as they wore. But, will go back to Duratracs once the AT3's wear out. The AT3's suck in Alberta winter conditions compared to the Duratracs I had.
Nothing planned for trips yet. It takes till April / May for the streetcleaners to be done getting rid of the gravel / salt that is on the roads from winter. Looking at a few day trips. The Iron Horse trail looks interesting. As does Forestry trunk road. Trouble here is I need to ride a...
