Anyone disconnect their front sway bar?

^No trouble exceeding the speed limit on onramps and switchbacks. YMMV and all that...

I think a firm support rather than a gas strut would be preferable.

Anyone disconnect their front sway bar?

There are other advantages besides articulation. Post#13. Took mine off and the truck handles great even with a big camper, but you will need new shocks. I gave up some small bump suppleness, and sweeping turn speed, but the handling in sudden maneuvers, especially with bumps, is great. Better...

Four Wheel Camper - A Review

Consider a F450 C&C. Now that I know how to make a cheap and easy articulating platform, the C-channel frames don't scare me. Those have a tight turning radius, and many wheelbase and other configurable options. You can get super single wheels for LT tires so long as you keep the rear axle...

I think a latch would be better than a gas strut. But I don't know how often you will need to move it.

2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Limited TRD - Mits Alloy Tray - Moderate Build

The Tundra should start out a bit lighter, but GVWR is only ~7,200 lbs. According to CR the 22+ version scores 2/5 for reliability, which is par for fullsize 1/2-tons... though Toyota may have fixed the issues by now.

Four Wheel Camper - A Review

I'm curious why you stated that low weight was a priority? An HD truck allows you to not worry about that too much.

Four Wheel Camper - A Review

There are a good number of opposing tradeoffs with a rig. The definition of "comfort" will vary greatly. I'm very comfortable without a lot of the things that most find essential. You'll have to decide what is acceptable to you. If you have plenty of experience then you should be aware of what...

    Starlink or Garmin in reach

It's a fair point, and it's good that you mention the difference... but if you really prioritize danger and safety, then it becomes a slippery slope to total obsession. Might as well just stay home. The bulk of my "overlanding" was a few thousand days spent in the boonies (ideally miles from...

    Any 7.3 gasser owners?

If you really want maneuverability, bumping up to the F450 C&C would make sense. If you don't need a backseat, you could do a custom bed and storage for the single cab short wheelbase, in either 450 C&C or 350. More $$$ and work, but... but you could keep the internal organs... :p

SOLD 2019 ford transit composite camper CAD$80,000 or US$60,000

For regular camping, AWD lacking a low range doesn't add a whole lot of ability, IMO. Could get a locker as a simpler upgrade. AWD would be nice for someone wanting to use it as a ski rig, or dealing with snow and ice regularly.

    First "vanlife" post...

    (y) If you plan on moving around with the seasons (will this be true?), then it's ridiculously easy to be comfortable with very little work. I lived in a 2wd pickup with an open diff for over a decade, mostly camped in the boonies far from other humans. Some advice... #1 recovery item is a good...

    Tires Limited Selection?

Well jeez... if you are stuck on a particular brand and model, I don't think you can complain too hard if the obscure size you want is no longer available... :p I see that Falken AT4W are available in that size, and they seem well liked. In the US most vehicles are trucks and SUVs that rarely...

Recommendation on good foldable solar panel.

It's definitely not the lightest, but has sturdy frame and stand. It appears that it's employing a pretty standard "flexible" plastic film construction, which has never had good longevity in the past. Maybe good for temporary use, but I'd trust glass/aluminum panels to last.

    Ford Box Trucks

Hoping you can provide more info regarding what you are trying to achieve. How and where will it be used, living requirements, 4x4, budget? etc If you are doing a 4x4 conversion it becomes far more expensive vs a truck. EDIT: after looking up Ford's pricing, they charge ~$8k more for the F350...

    Ford Box Trucks

I checked Fuelly for vehicles with the 7.3 gas: E350 = 8-9 mpg (only 11 samples though) F250 = 11-12 mpg F350 = 11 mpg I suspect E350s are box vans or RVs, while the trucks are more likely to be driven with lighter loads.

RexRover... another 1/2 ton based big luxury overland camper rig (F150) for $350k

For that money you can have a pretty decent custom with a much better box I think.
