Wow, you can get a message through with it sitting in your glovebox? :yikes: I want your spot!

Launch of Outdoor Adventure USA Amateur Radio Net

I'd love to listen in from Arizona. I'll try to connect via IRLP if available. Never used echolink, so I might have to learn one of these days...

    coax tape recommendation?

I'm looking for some good sturdy tape to hold my antenna wire to a body panel. Does anyone have a recommendation for this? I mean other than duct tape? TIA!

I do not believe this to be correct. Nowhere in my manual does it say that it will actually receive a message back from the satellite to tell it that it has gone through. Please show me where if I'm mistaken. WOW, do you have one of these? I had no idea it has gotten so cheap! I'd love to...

SPOT Tracks: Post up your routes

This is the single biggest issue with the spot IMO. There is no feedback to let you know if a message goes through or not. In fact, in order to make sure it goes through the unit will repeatedly send messages for a few minutes straight in duplicate. Although nice, it doesn't make the device a...

    HAM radio net search?

The ARRL listing is perfect. Nice and easy to use and update apparently. It still doesn't seem to have the net that I was in conflict with, but is a great listing. Thanks for all the replies!

    HAM radio net search?

Hmm it seems to be that with the age of internet collaboration there should be a better listing site out there. I know that no one can official "reserve" the frequencies but it would be nice to go to one place to catch up on the local schedule. We have lots of clubs here and I'm not sure how...

Holy Moley, $50 and you can't even buy one unless you purchase a spot as well! Not a bad idea though, I have a ram laptop mount, that might be a good place to mount it.

    HAM radio net search?

Is there any good site out there that lists ham radio nets for a particular area? The reason I'm asking is because I'm finding it difficult to find a good IRLP repeater that isn't being used by a "regular" net on the expo tues net. They tend to be rather pushy about how they have more...

I've also had issues with my spot getting a good signal to the sat. Those of you using them in vehicles, where are you mounting them?

    Overland TCP/IP via radio?

It's very easy to do APRS with the kenwood. All you need is the GPS receiver more or less. You can do really cool things with a laptop or supported gps device though. Like see other APRS stations on your map. I still may do APRS someday, but the equipment cost is high. Again it's going to...

    Overland TCP/IP via radio?

I'm also very interested in this. Unfortunately I'm not going to be much of a help. I know that the range would be limited to the packet radio supported repeaters where ever you were traveling. I unfortunately do not know how prevalent those are. Hopefully someone else will post up.

Or get a 8800 for $354.95 from HRO! Comes with a free separation kit ($60 itself). I have to say after having dual receive on both my HT and my mobile, I don't think I'll ever go back! Just my two cents.:)

I apologize for my quick departure. I didn't want to irritate the breaking station anymore than he already sounded. Thanks again for a great net.
