Full timing in a slide-in camper ... insanity?

Your first priority is your wife. Does she really like camping? If so that's great, but taking care of kids while camping is an extra challenge... for both of you... and them. However, if the kids have been well raised then they are like little "critters"... and will likely love camping in the...

Help me understand suspension and tires benfits on F350 w 2000lbs truck camper

285/75r18... not 70. Nominally it's 34.8" diameter vs 33.2" diameter for the 275/70r18. I think that is a fine choice if you are ready to get new tires, but I would look at the obvious free option first. Tire pressure. You're tires are supposed to carry 3640 lbs at 80 psi. I doubt you are...

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

Nonsense... neither is wide enough to sleep in or tall enough stand up in! 🤪 So long as I can comfortably sit in it, the cabin has plenty of room. Sometimes I wonder what ya'll are doing in your trucks...

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

Laughably, the biggest criticism of the overgrown "midsize" is that it isn't as big as a fullsize. 🤪 It's a shame we can't get buy the Toyota Champ here. Great basic small pickup without all the metrosexual doodads... like AT, AC, ABS, 4wd and air bags!

    F-350 crew cab 8’ bed

I'd buy a F-450 CC if I wanted offroad capability and big camper hauling. Much sharper turning with SS wheels, better articulation with a pivoting subframe, bigger tank option, and a wide choice of wheelbases. If you don't need the back seat for people, a regular cab with storage on the bed...

Awesome 2002 Chevy Express 2500 Custom Camper Van with all new parts Strong running v8 engine & custom camper van build Price Lowered !!! ($16,600)

???? I have a buddy who's looking for a van, but I'm pretty sure he'd balk at the miles. I wish you luck, but I think the market is moving back to pre-covid pricing.

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

I wouldn't advise higher spring rates; what you want is high digressive damping, especially if you are carrying a camper This will ride a bit rougher on "good" roads, but the control is a big step up IME. The digressive valving makes them firmer on slow speed motions like turns, but they will...

2020 Northstar Liberty - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

Wow... what a PITA. Those campground "human-acclimatized" bears are a menace. Where I live (Ruidoso NM) there are plenty of bears, elk, deer... and mountain lions (because all their "food" is in town) roaming about. It's impossible to train the tourists to "not feed the wildlife" if you don't...

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

    (y) I agree regarding stock suspension needing them, but Ironman FCPs work great without swaybars... even with a camper. Very controlled on mountain switchbacks, turns, onramps, sudden maneuvers, etc. I think high digressive damping is what you want. Designed to be firm at low speed (shock...

    12v portable fridge

I picked Bodegacooler because I think it's a cool name... and I like to reward Chinese companies that at least spend 2 minutes thinking about their name. I also figure that the name is about the only difference... 🤪

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

It probably isn't a conspiracy, but rather an artifact of refining domestic crude. It may be difficult for them to adjust how much gas and how much diesel they can get out of a barrel. So they basically produce what they can, and let the demand in the market set the price. Diesel is less...

New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

Absolutely... The "small" rear seat area is a gargantuan space on my Tundra once I removed the seats. I have 6 large storage crates (~70L each), a big tool box and a bunch of tools, 8 gal jugs of drinking water, and a mountain bike back there... and could add another tier. The doors are still a...

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

Hmm... I learned something today! Apparently the reasoning for lower octane at high altitude came from a 1942 study, while a 1987 study (still far from recent!) concluded that the octane need for modern (1987) engines dropped by only ~0.2 points per 1,000 ft, so at 5,000 ft 85 octane is about...

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

Recently it's been pretty common to have a "full-time" option on 4WD... at least the 1/2-tons. Just looked it up and the Sequoias have had a full time 4WD, but not the Tundra... and I don't think the latest Tundra does either.

    EarthCruiser Closing Doors

Were sales of the Terranova decent? I don't recall seeing any posted on this site. That one wasn't so expensive, ~$350k. They also announced a new one last year that was built on an AWD Transit chassis. Evado: https://earthcruiser.com/introducing-evado/

    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

4WD and AWD are not the same... and 4WD should not be used on dry pavement. AWD uses a center differential to distribute the engine's torque between the two axles, while 4WD relies on a transfer case, which is "locked". You get binding in turns with 4WD.
