is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

4.7L motor is solid. However, they all have issues with exhaust manifold leaks/cracks. MPG not great. Later ones with 5 speed and VVTI was slightly better. Turning radius is BAD!!! The 2G Tundra is easier to maneuver even with the larger size due to the tighter turning radius. Heck, the...

Gitout.com - Ultimate Expedition Build - 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited

Guess I didn't understand what you were asking... I didn't do any additional tuning from FilthyMotorSports. My understanding is that they are fully tuned for the Pajero platform. Worked great with no additional changes.

That's way too complicated... Just bolt in the coilover. Mark the contact area on the upper control arm (easy and very obvious). Only makes contact at full extension. Remove upper a-arm and trim/weld additional plate/support. Bolt in. Really really simple. Not a big deal. FYI - OME...

Tires... I am due for set. What are you rockin' on your Gen 3 Monty?

Lift does not change the clearance... unless you limit the suspension travel. Suspension compression travel remains the same lifted or not. I tested clearance with springs removed through the entire suspension range and steering range. Body lift or extending bump stops will allow better...

What do you mean by motion rate? I sold the Montero to my cousin. He may be able to help get measurements....

Tires... I am due for set. What are you rockin' on your Gen 3 Monty?

BFG Ko2 - 34x10.5R17 : Fits no problem. Just source some 17" wheels could be from Mitsu or Toyota or ??? There is no better all around tire than the Ko2. The price does reflect this. But well worth it. Quiet, durable, snowflake rated I've also run the 255/85R16 on factory wheels.

I want to paint the plastic body panels..

I removed the plastics from my old Gen3 Montero and painted lower section with Monstaliner. Very happy with it. Removing plastics is a ton of work. Had to weld all the holes in the body and fill. Not for the average type person. However, would definitely recommend Monstaliner. Painted my...

Gitout.com - Ultimate Expedition Build - 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited

Here's the fleet! Montero was the "do everything" vehicle (big sunroof: open air like convertible, spacious: sleep/camp inside, rock crawler: conquered the Rubicon, big v6: sporty-ish, practical: decent fuel mileage). But decided that having different vehicles for every task would be more fun...

Excellent. Share more about your experience. Maybe some of the other Mitsu guys will follow. You do get what you pay for. :) Next project... Well, I have a fleet of fun rigs. 2010 Winnebago View (setup for remote off grid: solar, lifted, tires, on board air, etc) - spent 86 nights in it...

You'll love the King Coilovers and resi-shocks! It's amazing why more people don't buy them. Mitsu buyers are typically so broke and cheap! My thought is buy a cheap rig so you can put the good parts on it. :) They are original upper control arms. Just clearanced and additional...

33" tire in rear swing out 3rd gen

I had a 35 on my back door. 2003 Limited. It rubbed the bumper a bit. 34" fits fine. Need a new bumper anyhow. Those plastic things are aweful.

    Expedition Vehicle selection thoughts?

Have you owned an RV before? You might consider buying something cheap $30-40k and travel then decide what you want/need. Getting all the cool guy stuff is great... until you realize that you'll never engage the lockers because there's no way you'll risk your home and hundreds of thousands of...

To lift or not to lift, that is the question

I'd change the suspension for both the height and performance. However, really depends on how you use the rig. There are few places a stock rig won't go. Assuming good tires, proper air pressure, good driver... I love coilovers and resi shocks because driving fast is fun. :) My 1999...

Market for $80k complete truck and camper - mini earthroamer?

I agree with this!! I've owned many built off road/expedition type rigs. My last rig was a 2016 Tundra + FWC. The biggest issue is bigness and weight! I wanted more luxury and absolutely love the Sprinter Chassis. So bought a Winnebago View (one that can run any diesel) with the intention...

Quietest 35 inch tire Toyota Tundra

Ko2 are the best all around tire out there. Very quiet for an aggressive AT. I've owned 4 sets now on 4 rigs. Only a slight compromise in deep mud (need more RPM) otherwise work awesome (snow, wet, rocks, gravel, sand, etc). Track well. They work great on my rock crawler Taco too. I've...

    New (to me) 98 Taco!

Don't touch the motor. You can get a low mile unit for around $1k. Change oil and run till it dies. Pulling apart an old motor has never worked out well for me $$$. I love my 1998! :)
