    Gen3 Transfer Case info?

Yes, purchased direct. Exchange rate is incredible. May pick up some headers too. Need to redo the exhaust as the mufflers are rather "modified".

Prospective 3rd gen Montero buyer: specific questions about a few issues

Fly out to Oregon and you can drive mine. :) I can tell you, if it feels like the driveshaft it isn't. They are like nothing you've ever seen before. Nearly no angle on them too. That sounds like a crazy generic description. "lots of 4wd and transmission issues" what does that even mean...

How do Monteros Stack Up Against Isuzu Troopers?

Trooper = weaker in every area. Crappy auto transmission. Noisy motor issues. Serious oil useage issues (late 3.2 & 3.5) as in oil will be gone in 300miles - piston issue. Weaker differentials. All components are weaker. Not really comparable except they are both less common and cheap.

Prospective 3rd gen Montero buyer: specific questions about a few issues

Well you could have other vibration going on for sure. Tires or worn bushings. That RPM specific vibration about 45mph is related to the rear dampening block. I don't notice it now after removing the block. Your diffs, transmission are all on bushings. These can get worn and transfer...

Prospective 3rd gen Montero buyer: specific questions about a few issues

    1) not an issue. BTW. driveline is composite carbon fiber mesh thing. Pajero guys overseas remove the brick hanging off the rear of the tcase to resolve vibration. I had to remove mine to clear the skids. Seems to lessen the vibration. Either way, not an issue and common on all the trucks...

Looking at buying a 3rd Gen Montero Limited, any helpful information?

Mine has been a great truck. Keep in mind with any older vehicle 10yrs + you'll want to start replacing bushings, hoses and seals. Use factory parts and fluids. Transmission fluid absolutely should be dealer only. Timing belt service required on time. You'll want to replace other common...

    Gen3 Transfer Case info?

Thanks Eric. I think that helped get me what I needed. I was able to verify the factory part # for the input gear and cross reference to the Pajero. Should be good. Waiting to confirm with Marks and check shipping options. Exchange rate keeps improving. 71% now.

    Gen3 Transfer Case info?

I need to pull the transmission to replace the rear main seal. Most non-inspirational job on the planet. So, figured why not make it more exciting by upgrading the truck. I've pulled apart several transfer cases. I'll be replacing any seal or bearing that gets removed. Install is mostly...

    Gen3 Transfer Case info?

Got this info from the dealer: This was the only transfer case offered with the 3.8L and 5 speed automatic. He found these numbers for the transfer case (based on my vin #): V5A51-7-CCA1,CCB1,HCB PSS4 Factory Part # MR567232 Just need to see how this corresponds to the Pajero overseas. Any...

    Gen3 Transfer Case info?

I'm looking to purchase transfer case gears for my 2003. Marks4WD wants to verify transfer case model / series / version to ensure gears will fit. Gears: http://www.marks4wd.com/low-range-overdrive-gears/low-range-gears/mitsubishi/paj-gen3-3-15a.html Does anyone have details on this...

    Re-gearing Gen 3?

You can buy gears from the dealer or used diffs from a wrecking yard 01-02 with 4 speed auto. Direct swap. If you buy used, then just bolt in. It's a good time to replace bushings, bearings, seals, etc... Also, ARB locker is nice addition (especially in rear). More power. Correct speedo...

Replacing Front Wheel Bearings on Gen III

Great write up. Where did you buy the bearings? Do you think Timken quality is equal to Mitsu (whatever they use)?

    Sierra Challange 2015 Aug 31st - Sept 9th

Steel are crap for rocks. They bend air leaks... Plus crazy heavy. No thanks. I've run alloy for years. Sure, it's possible to break them. However, I've never had that problem. Also, never bent them. Every steel wheel I owned got bent and crap got stuck in the bead like crazy. My...

    Sierra Challange 2015 Aug 31st - Sept 9th

35s you need subframe drop. Won't fit otherwise. 34s are the perfect size. Best mpg, power and handling. Keep stock drive shaft. Incorporate into the skid. Mine is completely covered/protected. RCV should fix any issue with strength. My truck did fine with stock shafts (much of it is...

    New guy with gen3 montero

I'm confused.... You sold the Montero because there wasn't enough "aftermarket parts" to buy an Xterra (weaker platform) which had trouble so you bought a Honda which as less aftermarket than the Xterra or Montero and has one of the poorest AWD systems out there?? I say, don't spend any money...
