2016 Four Wheel Camper Hawk - Loaded w/ Solar! -- SOLD

Denny @ FWC installed the trasharoo mounts. Friend built the sliders. They were custom. Couldn't find a "running board" style rock slider so custom was the way to go. These do a great job protecting the side of the truck from rock debris as well.

    XPCamper and GVWR

Manufacturer weight ratings have little to do with actual components. Study the vehicles GAWR (gross axle weight rating). It's interesting to see how many "heavy duty" trucks have a GVWR that is nearly the max GAWR. IE there is little margin if you meet or exceed the GVWR. However, vehicles...

    XPCamper and GVWR

I wouldn't run a 3/4 or 1 ton truck with the FWC. I've owned an F250. It sucked in comparison. Steering wasn't precise, acceleration marginal, brakes moderate, handling was like driving a lumbering gorilla. That being said the Tundra needs modification to haul. Springs, Shocks, Sway Bar...

    XPCamper and GVWR

Simple way to avoid all that... don't have your vehicle look overloaded! Why do people over complicate things? Even in the attached PDF it states that the officer takes visual cues. Basically, if it looks unsafe they many flag you regardless of actual GVWR. So make it safe and no issues...

    XPCamper and GVWR

If safety is the primary concern then modify it to carry the weight. I challenge anyone with a F250/350/550 or other heavy duty vehicle to a competition with a properly modified Tundra carrying the same load. I'll bet the braking distance, acceleration, cornering, maneuvering etc... would be...

    XPCamper and GVWR

Factory GVWR is less important than keeping within the axle GAWR (axle weight rating), proper suspension for weight, brakes and proper tires. Too little engine just makes you go slow. VW Westy owners have done that for years.

    2nd vs. 3rd Gen Tacoma

Consider a Tundra DC. They are offered with 38 gallon tank (great range), plenty of torque, bigger cabin space, proven drivetrain, towing ability, bed size (width). Fun fact: Tundra DC and Tacoma DCLB have the same turning circle. Tundra has the tightest turning of any full size. Only...

    NorthstarTC650-n-Tundra

I've enjoyed watching your Tundra progress over the years. My 2016 Tundra is hauling a 4 wheel camper and just passed 45k miles. Lots of adventures. However, it was brought to my attention that the transmission cooling (with tow package) isn't great. It runs hot. Have you looked into this...

    XPCamper and GVWR

I'm guessing your pickup weighs much more than you think. Assuming you have flat bed, upgraded suspension, diesel motor swap, bumpers, winch, etc... all adds up. My Tundra just has slider/steps, 2" lift and with random stuff inside and gas it was 500lbs over stock curb weight. This is partly...

Yes. But it could easily achieve 19-20mpg stock as well.

    Gen III Range Per Tank

423 miles was one of the better tanks. After 25,976 miles the overall average was 15.71mpg. Best was 24mpg. This includes time on 35s and 34s. Off road. Rock crawling. Lots of 4wd (was adventure rig not DD). I did run out of gas a couple times pushing the limits. But easily could get...

New 4Runner Trail - Icon build - questions

The pivot joints may make noise but can't see the "pinch bolts" making noise. Is this really a thing? I seriously doubt it. On a side note, 4" lift in the front is way too much! Your CV axles will be short lived. Also, you won't have any down travel remaining. That isn't ideal for...
