Have you watched videos of the Rubicon? You should have a good idea of what to expect. It is rock crawling. There is no limit to damage possible.
You should check the air lines yourself. Know your vehicle. Buy some rubber hose and wrap the line (especially near the exhaust manifold)...
Just rolled over 20k miles of ownership. Monte has been a champ.
Still enjoying the Ko2 tires. On road driving is fantastic. Hit the best MPG driving to Evan's Creek - 23mpg. Previous best with these tires was 21mpg coming down from Canada. The tires had no issues at Evan's Creek (driving all...
Yes, all of them have the skids. People don't put them back on after oil changes (hassle) so they go missing.
Rust = if you see any visible rust there is 100x more you don't see.
The time you'll spend dealing with rust is way more than a short flight and drive back (easy weekend trip).
My old Isuzu had the same issues (over 20yrs old). There is no issue with any part on the 3rd Gen Monty. Buy a newer truck if you want better access to parts. I've been amazed at the random parts the dealer can get.
Hey Ethan! What the heck are you doing in NY? What did you do with your Gen2 Monte?
That truck has way, way too much rust / corrosion or whatever you want to call it. I'd avoid rust like the plague.
You'll want to sleeve (rubber hose) the air line and fully wrap it anywhere near heat and any attachment points. Line routing will make all the difference on reliability.
I'd pay to have 4WP stay away from my truck! Those guys have no idea what they are doing.
BTW: 3rd in the Nation. :)
Gen3 skids are thinner and more useless than the previous generation. I believe the skid under the tranny was plastic; can't confirm because mine didn't have one.
Just depends on how you use it. Mine is used fairly heavily on trails. I bent the front crossmember (custom replacement), broke...
Most likely worn out bushing(s). My rear trailing arm bushings were worn out (replaced them - OEM). I also replaced sway bar bushings. It shouldn't squeak. Find out where it is coming from.
Yes, they will get tight (unless stripped). 18in-lb is to keep you from over tightening and over compressing the rubber. Yes, I often put a small amount of RTV in the corners.
3.8L has plenty of power. Transmission does an exceptional job. It has no problem gaining speed on the steepest mountain passes. And can easily pass on 2 lane roads. I weigh in over 6,000lbs on trips. Running 34" tires with 4.90 gears. It will do over 20mpg on the road (almost hit 21mpg on...
Mine did something similar. Wierd issue with ecu harness connection to ecu. Cleaning and reseating fixed it. I had to get a good mechanic buddy to track down the problem. You may want to have a good troubleshooter look at it.
