    Montero vs TLC 100

http://www.coilsprings.com/ - You can spec the exact spring you want. Progressive / Linear Rate, Lift Height, Weight Capacity. Very happy with them. Used them on both rigs. I sold the 92 about 10 years ago with 230k miles. It's still rolling around town; now on 35s. Looked like the same...

Want to double check a few things and say hello!

Spare won't fit on the back door if the actual size measures 33" diameter without modification. Mine measures 33.5". I can barely close the rear door with the top plastic removed from the bumper. I'll be doing a custom bumper in the near future. Also, the factory wheels are hub centric those...

    Montero vs TLC 100

Really? You must be just considering the IRS vs solid axle. That's a rather minor difference. Did you know a stock 3rd gen can flexes more than a stock 2nd gen? Having owned two 2nd Gen trucks (one on 35s and one on 33s) I can tell you the 3rd gen is as capable if not more so than the 2nd...

    Montero vs TLC 100

Really you should be comparing the 100 series to the 3rd Gen Monty. And then it makes an even easier decision. :)

Gen 3 factory luggage rack and RTT

The factory rack is incredibly sturdy. It has 2 bolts that go through the roof with nuts on the back side for each mount. Plus, the base is rather large. I don't think you'd have any trouble, unless you are jumping on it. :)

My Alabama 1998 Gen 2.5 BUILD

Yes, the motor is fairly complicated but I found it incredibly easy to work on. Just take your time. Everything comes apart and goes together logically and easily. I just did the heads, t belt, starter and nearly every other part on it. Get some factory manuals or print the shop manuals and...

quick question for those running 35's

FYI this is not true for the 3rd Gens. It says on. Additionally, it works like some modern vehicles to regulate speed downhill in 4WD low. Don't remember how it worked on my 1995 or 2000.

You don't have to drop the tank. There is an access panel under the rear seat.

    2003 Montero Non-build thread

You think a 4.7L will be cheaper to maintain?? Think again. I owned a 07 4runner 4.7L. At 60k miles it had both exhaust manifolds cracked (nearly $2k repair). This is extremely common, every 4.7L will need them on or before 100k. There are headers available for the Tundra 4.7L but nothing...

    2003 Montero Non-build thread

I disagree about the skids. The Montero needs them more than any other vehicle I've owned. Especially, if you have the rear heater. There are coolant lines run from the front / rear. I had a stick snag one of those lines beside the transmission and caused it to lose over a gallon of coolant...

3rd Gen Transfer Case - Need Info!

Here's the info I have so far: The 3rd Gen Auto aftermarket low range gears are: 24t and 26.5mm diameter My case is a 3rd Generation Tcase w/ electronic motor. The early 3rd Gens had the same case/transmission as the 2nd Gen trucks. Specs look right yet the install guide clearly shows a...

3rd Gen Transfer Case - Need Info!

I'm trying to figure out if lower transfer case gears will fit... The 3rd Gen Montero had a manual shift transfer case behind the 4 speed transmission. Then they switched to a motor operated transfer case with the 5 speed transmission. My truck is a 2003 3.8L, 5 speed, motor tcase. My...

    higher capacity oil filter

Use factory filters. If you try other filters make sure to monitor oil pressure. I'd keep with what the motor was designed for.

    3rd gen montero/pajero questions

You have it backwards. The 3.5L requires premium fuel. 3.8L runs on either but designed for premium (better performance and mpg). The 2003 and later are much more desirable. You get the 5 speed, 3.8L and you can swap the XLS 4.90 gears which are ideal for 33-35" tires. The 2003+ traction...

    Wheel spacer to lift ratio?

I put on 1.25" in the front and 1.75" rear. Tire sidewall is 1/4" inset from the outside of the fender. Running 255/85r16 (33.5" tire). You don't have to remove the cladding. I have removed my side steps and trimmed the bottom of the cladding. Front bumper was replaced with ARB. It has...
