Tall skinny tires on a 5th gen TE 4Runner?

I'm very happy with 235s! 235/85/16 Firestone Destination MT - 48lbs - 3 Ply Sidewall - Load E - Measure true 32" My lifetime MPG average since new on the Taco (over 11,000 miles) is 17mpg. That includes all off road adventures (non-adjusted so add 3% for actual) - been on 10 trips since Dec...

Gitout Expedition Build - 2013 Toyota Tacoma DC TRD

No question. Firestone Destination MT. I paid slightly over $1,000 for 5 tires installed at the local Firestone Branch. I didn't choose them for the low cost but can't complain about that. Spent nearly 2 months researching tires before making the decision. Tires are the foundation of any...

Gitout Expedition Build - 2013 Toyota Tacoma DC TRD

Traction in the rain and snow is excellent. It rivals AT tires. The tread compound is soft; this is great for traction but it will have a greater tendency to chunk on rocks (ie don't spin your tires excessively). My brother has the Duratrac in 235/85. My tires perform equally well in rain...

Gitout Expedition Build - 2013 Toyota Tacoma DC TRD

They measure ~31.5" currently with full truck weight. Thats with 10k miles on them. I'm very happy. The smaller size is great for road driving and plenty for all the trails and obstacles so far. I'll bet they are easily 1/4-1/2" taller than 265s yet less weight.

Which bed rack should i get?

Bolt together, short bed. I don't see any advantage with the weld together version. Weight difference would be minimal. And if anything the bolt together is stronger. All the tubes are sleeved 2-3" on both sides. It took some effort to get it assembled. The rack is extremely strong. I can...

Having a custom rack built that will mount to the canopy. The rack will also allow mounting of an Awning.

Real world MPG of 2.7L 4x4 5spd Tacomas?

Get the 4.0L V6. You'll regret the 2.7L after adding lift, tires, weight... And your MPG will be the same or less than the 4.0L when modified. My truck is heavy (see the build thread); it just set this record distance on 21 gallons this weekend (see pic below). And you need to add 3% to the...

Gitout Expedition Build - 2013 Toyota Tacoma DC TRD

Fair enough. Good hearing about your experience and feedback. Wish the cause could have been determined... I've been extremely happy with the clear bra for off road use. I purchased a 5 x 50ft roll of material and wrapped the entire truck. It has saved the paint! It still looks brand...
