Turns out I need a real truck. Kindly help me choose one!

I bought my truck pre-covid, and it was a leftover. I ended up paying 60k out the door for a 72k msrp truck. While not the best discount, with the difference in airfare and fuel to get home, plus the time, it was a good deal. Even with current market conditions being a bit more than pre-covid, I...

LED headlights are increadibly easy to add yourself. You pull a few plastic tabs, pop 2 painted trim pieces on the front, maybe 10-15 bolts, and install. I believe you add a small wiring harness if it's OEM that is plug and play, or if you go aftermarket I think it's strictly plug and play...

I'd strongly consider looking at Mark Dodge, Dave Smith, or even Granger. Most likely, even with the flight there and drive back, you'll end up thousands ahead vs buying local. At this point, you shouldn't be paying anything close to MSRP for these trucks.

Turns out I need a real truck. Kindly help me choose one!

For what it's worth, I am running 37s on AEV wheels and I didn't have to trim my bumper at all. My buddy is also running the same. Stock bumpers on both, 0 trimming to the bumper. If you like the look and want to run the winch, then by all means, but it's not strictly necessary.

While these numbers look pretty accurate, I'll call out that the Hemi makes that torque @ 4,000 rpm, where as the Cummins makes it's torque @ 1,700 rpm. Obviously, torque curves being different and all that, you'd need to find apples to apples dyno sheets or manufacture provided data, the...

    Flemster's 22 Ram 3500 Build - Sherpa Edition

@Sherpa_Flemster, I know this isn't about your buddies rig, but curious if you and your buddy with the mitts tray have done the pro/con on that tray setup. Past the cost, any downside?

2021 RAM 3500 Tradesman | AEV Prospector | FWC Grandby

Jocko is a bit much most of the time, but I've gotta say his book Extreme Ownership is amazing. I've listen to it twice, and have read it every other year since it came out. Really changed my perspective on things.

    I'm BACK!!! 2023 F-250 Tremor build

The best part about the new GX is that it's not a forced hybrid option, I dig that. I also feel you on the dogs, those fluffers take up a lot of space. I'm very interested to hear about your ongoing experience with the SD vs the Ram platform since you've had at least 2 since I've been chatting...

    I'm BACK!!! 2023 F-250 Tremor build

Tex, I wish you the best of luck with this new build. What made you want to get rid of the LC? Those 200 series are seriously awesome rigs.

    Flemster's 22 Ram 3500 Build - Sherpa Edition

Oh, yeah. I'll fully admit that may be an issue, but the number of times that actually happens is so so so exceptionally small. That grid heater bolt thing has been discussed to death for a decade or more at this point.

    Flemster's 22 Ram 3500 Build - Sherpa Edition

To be fair, the trans issue was due to a snap ring that affected only the Aisin and only for a few months of production. It's really sad for sure, but it's also a small blimp. I haven't heard of any specific engine issues with the 22s, although I know there have been issues with the hydraulic...

How long does it take a water tank to freeze?

@Duredel, I don't have any practical help here, but I do have some potential solutions. As others have said, depending on if you're routing the water inside or not, keeping that connection insulated is an important factor as that water line will freeze way before the container. There may be...

Why is Dodge more popular than Ford/GM? (Not a bash post)

Seems like a lot of answers similar to the one I'm about to give. I think there are a number of reasons that the Ram HD platform seems to outnumber the Ford and GM by a fair amount in terms of late model trucks on the trail. Ram has the Power Wagon. It's a fantastic option for an out of the box...

Who's building the best 3/4 Ton/ 1 Ton Gas Truck these days!

This was one of the driving factors for me. The SD turning radius is something like 27.5' vs the Ram at under 24' when you compare CCSB trucks. Just shy of 4 foot turning radius, or 8' for a circle, is a pretty serious difference. F150 with the short bed is the same as the Ram 2500, The GM and...

2018 Ram 3500 Expedition Family Adventure Vehicle

I know literally nothing about welding aluminum past the fact that it's possible, but I'm surprised that you can see the welds to clearly. I guess I would have expected them to be ground or smoothed down. Guessing the aluminum doesn't allow for that as easily? It is a sweet bed though

    Trestle 2022 Ram 3500 Cab/Chassis Build Thread

Thanks for the info, it's good to hear. As you stated, I think for the time being clamps will be more than enough for me. I wish I thought of what you did prior to my order, but I believe my bumper is already off to coating, so I'll leave with it and if I find that I need to recoat or fix it up...

    Trestle 2022 Ram 3500 Cab/Chassis Build Thread

@Trestle I'm waiting on the identical bumper from Expo 1. After reviewing your post I'm thinking that I made a mistake getting the factory powdercoat as your light mounting solution looks like it will be super clean. Eager to see what lights you end up with and how it all looks, I'll probably...

    Flemster's 22 Ram 3500 Build - Sherpa Edition

I won't muddy this thread too much, since it's not my thread, but I'll say these two items. #1 - I work in tech. I've worked closely with those that are college educated in comp sci, from a bachelors all the way to PHDs. In my experience there is little correlation with someone holding a degree...

    Flemster's 22 Ram 3500 Build - Sherpa Edition

They paying you by the post? ;) Regardless of your definition of "engineers", How do you know that none of the aftermarket options provide the necessary airflow? It may be the case that AEV is the only one who tests for airflow, but if they do, they don't post that information on the page you...
