3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

+1 the starlink idea. I guess a large part of it depends on what sort of adventure travel you do. If you're often separated from your vehicle, and in a location where service is close to 0, a sat phone may be the only viable option, but assuming you generally are close enough to your vehicle to...

    The Status of Overlanding Today

Ah thanks! I've seen the mag before. I enjoy some of the photography but that is about where it ends for me. Thanks for sharing!

Rambox or Not for new PW build.

If you want a cap, don't get the ram boxes. There are for sure options around them, but they are either goofy as all hell or completely remove the usefulness of the quick access boxes. If you never plan to do a cap, I think it's a 50/50. Frankly I think they are a pretty interesting and...

    The Status of Overlanding Today

I don't really wanna stir the pot here, but I am legit curious what mag it was and if it looked at least halfway decent. I'm a pretty active shooter and enjoy "overland built trucks" even if I realize that 90% of them see nothing more that forest roads or the local coffee shop parking lot for...

American Expedition Vehicles calls this "most capable overlanding rig designed to date."

Yeah, I mean I get that. It's AEVs "mo" at this point. Take a vehicle, match the OEM flare design, pull higher and wider, and whatever cutting that must be done is done. It's a bit more complex than that but the plan is pretty straight forward. Everything else aside, I think it's a great...

American Expedition Vehicles calls this "most capable overlanding rig designed to date."

Most impressive thing here is that they stuffed 40" tires into a GM truck without 12" of lift. Looks really well done, and arguably the flares fit better than the Ram trucks.

Heavy Duty Rams of Overland Expo East

I think for some folks, the lost of overall "carrying capacity" is more than made up for with the built in storage options. If it doesn't work for you, that's totally cool, but I personally find them very attractive.

Heavy Duty Rams of Overland Expo East

Foxtrot belongs to NH Overland. Great guy and makes some really cool stuff for our HD rams. I really love/hate seeing all these rams with flatbeds and canopies. They look so amazing and the functionality is basically perfection. I wish they weren't so damned expensive.

    I'm BACK!!! 2023 F-250 Tremor build

If I could fit 40s on my Ram without a monster lift or hacking the fenders, I'd 100% do it. 40s are the new 35s.

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

The width of a Ram 1500 should be the same as a Ram 2500, I'd assume others are similar. Width isn't as big a deal on the 1500+ platforms vs the midsize (midsize trucks are more narrow, Fullsize/HD trucks generally share the same or similar cab sizes and bed sizes, with length being the primary...

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

Bowen has done slim front garages on flatbed builds (see below). ) I see no reason he can't also do that for a "topper bed". Note that if you go down that path you're going to need to extend the bed to around 7.5-8ft in order to fit a standard size alucab topper. Perhaps you can instead do an...

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

Don't most bed cap/camper setups offer a lower and upper level and a zipper opening of some sort? I'd assume this is pretty possible with most of the wedge style campers?

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

The half canopy with tray looks very appealing to me, but not sure how it would work for you if you plan a cap camper? I love the idea of having that big locking box storage, plus having open bed space for dirty items, a dirt bike, etc.

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

My point is that there are dramatic enough differences between a Taco and a Ram HD that just because one brand performed well one one style of truck, doesn't mean it will on every style. You may find that the Bilsetin shocks work well for your application, I haven't run them on the Ram HD but I...

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

I've not watched that video, but it appears their discussion is largely around a Taco? A Taco has about as much in common with a solid axle Diesel 3500 as a BMW 3 series. Again, I don't have a breakdown with a bunch of testing, I've not owned Bilstein shocks on a truck for quite some time. I...

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

Truth be told I can't stand Bilstein shocks, so I don't think my input would be good here. I think as you get to a larger shock King is "king" and Fox is a valid alternative. I've heard good things about Icon from the toyota crowd, but I've got no direct experience with them myself. Well...

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, the AEV suspension is not the best bet for these trucks. If your goal is to run 37s max, then you don't need to lift 3" front and 2" rear with the stock coils/leafs, you just don't have enough travel on those to justify needing any extra height. You...

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

I contacted RSI and they told me that their BRS (Bed Replacement System) is going to come out for the Tacoma mid 2024, and I've seen pictures of one on a Gladiator, so my expectation would be both come out together, or Taco followed by Glady. I had asked about plans for Ram HD, and they said...

3500 RAM Prospector + Alu Cabin + Custom Bed

The whole tray thing is starting to hit hard stateside, so there are both conus and oconus options. Bowen makes some really high quality looking stuff. OZ land has Norweld and MITS Alloy stateside. Nuthouse Industries and SET overland exist, but both may be a hair more "commercial" than you're...

Turns out I need a real truck. Kindly help me choose one!

I'd straight up steer away. I've never had a great experience from a horrible dealer, but I have had horrible experiences from horrible dealers. As others have mentioned about getting out and enjoying before you go full bore, I think it's for sure valid, so I wouldn't stress too much over...
