From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Thanks guys. The bolt head is captured inside a slot in the extrusion. That slot, sadly, is covered with a rounded cap (as shown in Bob's picture, above). I got three bolts out, but that fourth bolt is tight enough there's no budging this thing. But, since I know where the bolt is I will just...

Belafonte Reboot....Ambulance to 4x4 Camper Conversion

Okay, haha! My 1999 ambo has Whelen halogen side emergency and scene lights and the Whelen series 97 lights I've got uses a single screw at the bottom, to hold the lens in place. I was asking because I just pulled all the lenses off our rig and have 4 clear lenses, I'd like to pass on to...

Belafonte Reboot....Ambulance to 4x4 Camper Conversion

Hey tgreening... I did a search for Whelen 97 and this thread came up, but in the 87 (!) pages I didn't spot it. Do you have the 97-series single-screw lights on your rig?

    chassis rust

I looked at those pics and all I can offer is that it's hard to tell. Some of the pics show rust that appears to penetrate through the metal, but they're dark and I may not be seeing that right. What I can do, if it helps, is show what we found on ours. In the front, there's a cross piece...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

If that was you who slit it from end-to-end, right in the middle of the channel, then yes - and thanks to you! Seeing what was in there helped me, right up until I couldn't get to that last nut. And now I know exactly what to do to free mine. It won't be an end-to-end job, but I'll cut V...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Pat, thanks for the tip and the link - interesting reading. Especially the parts about using a log in place of a rear tire... or chaining a section of wood to a tire for traction/hole-filling. Wow! As far as my more mundane weekend went... I pulled off a few of the side lights and was...

Limb etc. VS roof mount solar panel...... and the winner is?

Iain_U1250, that is so cool. Very nicely done. I also considered cameras which would show the upper corners. But I wasn't sure if that was just silly. Now I think it's almost a necessity.

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Thanks, Scooter - I did check it a few times. :smiley_drive: As far as the bumper goes, I'm not quite sure what we'll do there. First, I'm going to finish the winch mount and get it usable. I need it to pull my 6000-pound milling machine into the shop we're building. There's a sequence to...

    1994 International 4700 Conversion Begins

By the time we get to doing yours, I'll have that all dialed in... I'm happy being the Guinea Pig! Haha!

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Well, after a week out of state, I got to work on something I wasn't terribly looking forward to (I know, dangling preposition and all...). I'm a planner, but not in the CAD sense. I need to look, do some fitting, try and then do. After taking off the front bumper and the (rusted) thin steel...

    1994 International 4700 Conversion Begins

It's good to be back working on things after a break, I'm sure! Yes, that doesn't look like very convenient access - but, it looks like a perfect fit and well tucked out of harm's way. I totally understand the "put them where they'll go" planning... I'm with you there! Having two tanks under...

Installing a used Warn - can't remove two socket head screws.

This was a bit of a project, but it's done! I was out of state this week, so I didn't get to look at the winch again until yesterday... sadly, no captured square nuts on mine. Might be too old for that design change? I first tried a vice grip on the shaft of the bolt, but these things were...

    The Warn CLW (P2000)

Right on and no worries, Andy. Thanks for the info. We'll use this until it dies... which will, most likely, be never. I saw the price on that 2000 DC, when you recommended it in another thread. It's hard to believe it's under $100, with the remote cable and all... a nice bit of kit.

    Air Brakes

Our Freightliner ambulance has a separate DC electric compressor, for use when the engine isn't running or for backup. Works great. Just has a check valve and is plumbed into the primary system.

    The Warn CLW (P2000)

Hi all, especially Andy... I got a Cute Little Winch, a P2000. It looks darn near new and we're looking forward to using it for a rear-mounted utility winch (pulling a canoe onto the rack, pulling an elk into the back, raising/lowering the spare tire.. I know, no lifting with it!). The clutch...

    Trailer winch

You. Guys. ROCK! What great info, without overselling - steering towards an affordable option, which will work... forever. Nicely played, sir.

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

The permanent jack discussion made me look, admiringly, at the crane we had on our site yesterday... we need this on the front! Not really, of course... it would interfere with the winch... and the snow plow.

It's still there. You need to use the link in the second post.

    Trailer winch

Unless you plan to try lifting your Suburban straight up, you won't need a winch that big. 😎 The capacity of the winches you were looking at initially should work fine. In fact, even smaller would work, for ramp loading use. If weight and cost and the size of the cable needed for a...

Orzrockrat, thanks for the video. I didn't see it until after typing my last... Your new sand mats would have come in handy there. If you got stuck there, I'd never try it with our pizza cutters. 😳
