From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Funny, all! Okay, you joke about the zombies... but, in our area, we've got to worry about elk and cattle and antelope. Having some ditch lighting makes sense, so my plan is to see if these fit. We've got a pair on the way and it seems like they'll fit nicely. The recesses are about 6 7/8...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

That's fantastic! Cruise control... now I won't have to hear about it again. :) Seriously, though, where did you find this person and does he/she like the cool mountain air? And, another serious question... what's the consequence of not having the ECU read the speed right? I actually had...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Well, today was delivery day. Triplets... of the bumpers we (Ozrockrat, Scooter421 and I) ordered. Since we split the shipping, and it was the same price to ship one or 3, it came to $350 per bumper, delivered. These things are in great shape. If they were ever mounted, which I doubt, they...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

Cool, thanks for being the Guinea pig and figuring out the 1s and 0s for me! Sorry I misled you about the plugs, though... I didn't unplug them and they looked like 4 separate plugs. I'll change our speedo tonight, since I had to open up the dash for a friend...

I like the ladder, too, but it's a pricey Little Giant! I've owned cars that cost less... :)

    $150 budget: for recovery boards/mats?

Warning... these aren't lightweight. They weigh 31 pounds each. But, for $20 each, you can get a 5-foot section of Marston mat when you're out in California. The place, in El Mirage, is Aviation Warehouse. If you could dual-purpose them for tables or something, the weight might be okay for...

    E-450 Short Bus Diesel

We're following along, even though our rig's an ambulance. Damn... that spring stack is impressive!

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Hi Bob and Pat, Actually, we don't plan to have the lights supported by the pans themselves. They are pretty thin. The pans were just a convenient way to create a recess and cover the hole. The pans are about a inch deep, but the lights we're looking at are 2.5-inches deep or 3-inches deep...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Hi Pat, The screws run underneath the skin. I used a scribe to mark the locations on the pans, so when I drilled the holes they screw threads catch the back of the skin. It's quite sturdy... I experimented with the first pan and found that I could tighten the screw so much that it would...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

After work today, I got the pans permanently mounted with wires stubbed out. The screws worked out really well and sit as flush as I could hope for. Anyone for cookies or tiny cakes? And, here's the back with the two brake lights, the two pans for floods, and the center cutout for the...

How many miles on your Toyota?

258K on our Tundra. And, when we recently bought our ambulance and didn't need two trucks AND an ambulance, we decided to sell one. We sold the 2004 Ram crew cab 4x4, with the Hemi, even though it was cosmetically in better shape than the Tundra. But, the Dodge had 150K miles. A pretty 150K...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

This weekend was filled with work and business stuff, and a little progress on the rig. Less progress than I'd hoped, but we're getting close to being ready for paint... and that is my most pressing goal here, at the moment. If you'll remember, months ago, I bought a bunch of small baking pans...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

Hey Oz, I need your guru's contact info! I wonder what he/she can do with our engine output. As far as the speedo goes, let me know what you find there, too. I wasn't certain, and haven't yet pulled it out to look at the back, but I thought ours had DIP switches on the back for adjustment...

I'm laughing out loud... Really. Deplorable, huh? You caught that? 🍷 No offense, my good friend, but I haven't really found an Australian wine that I like. I got to spend a few weeks there, teaching, and I asked for many recommendations... Might just be the style. My favorite wines...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

At least for Oz's rig, it's easy... he's got the exact same truck and the same Warn M12000 winch that we've got. So, I'm just the Guinea pig. It's a good role for me!

Thanks, Pat, for the pic fix! Thanks, also, to two fellow Arizonans with MDT ambo rigs... because of Ozrockrat and Scooter, I've got three of these that will be arriving next week... :)

Side note.. do any of you have Whelen 97 (the single, bottom screw style) side or scene lights on your ambo? I've got 4 clear lenses, looking for a new home.
