From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Indeed, we will have a snatch block and rigging. As Oz says, we'll probably only use the winch to drag out others... 😎 And, if we need it, 12K should be plenty. Heck, we don't need to lift the ambo into a tree. And, of course, the snatch block doubles that capacity. That's what I use for...

Installing a used Warn - can't remove two socket head screws.

Agreed! With the winch mounted on the bracket, I couldn't see in there. But now that I'll be able to get in there, with heat, it should work fine. Even if they red LocTited it. Or, worst case, I can drill it out. Either way, I'm no longer worried about causing any damage to the winch body. A...

Installing a used Warn - can't remove two socket head screws.

Ha! In for a penny and all that... That's good info about the captive square nuts in there. I'll be out of state all week, so it'll sit as is (soaking away happily) till the weekend. More to follow then.

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Hi Pat, The "baby" one is a Warn P2000 - that might also be an ATV winch, as it's got a 2000 lb capacity. I can't find much info on it. The P indicates it was a "portable" winch, I understand (from the prior owner), and it originally came with a carrying case. But, it came with a cute little...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Bob, that Onan sounds like a nice unit - they make great stuff. Speaking winches, I left our big winch alone for a few weeks and look what happened... like rabbits, these things are... :Wow1:

Installing a used Warn - can't remove two socket head screws.

Okay... solved. With cutting. The spacers, actually, were loose enough to spin with my fingers. In fact, there was enough of a gap that I hardly shortened them at all when I slid my 1/16-inch cutting wheel in there and cut the head off. Now that I can see the threads, I will let them soak in...

    Introducing O'Billy - our new Type-II Ambulance

Okay, we'll order up some of that same tape. Glad to see you get such clean lines without the expensive (and hard to apply) wire edge stuff. One last question, then, please... how long after your last coat did you remove that tape? Was the Raptor spray still wet then?

Belafonte Reboot....Ambulance to 4x4 Camper Conversion

Personally (since you asked for input) I would leave it just as it it now. I think it looks great!

Installing a used Warn - can't remove two socket head screws.

Damn! Even if I end up just leaving those bolts in place, the reviews on this tool are pretty impressive. I've never seen this... but thanks to Amazon I've got one on the way now. Thanks much.

    Introducing O'Billy - our new Type-II Ambulance

That's a beautiful edge! Since we're going to be spraying Raptor or something similar, I need to know what worked for you on those edges? Regular tape and, if so, which one did you use? Or did you use the "fancy" wire edged tape? That's exactly the edge we'll want between our panels. Nicely...

Installing a used Warn - can't remove two socket head screws.

Thanks all - good suggestions. I am using PB Blaster (the best penetrating lube I've found), but like I said it can't get to the threads because of the sleeve/spacer. The socket head isn't stripped, so I'm getting good torque on it. And, the only way to apply heat (which I'm a big fan of!)...

Installing a used Warn - can't remove two socket head screws.

Hi gang, Sorry to muddy the recovery section with this mundane issue... but, I looked online and no joy... I've got a used Warn M12000 we're installing on the front of our rig. It came pre-mounted to a bracket which will fit nicely on our frame rail extensions - so, we lucked out there. To...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Ah, yes, the Westerbeke... haha! I could bring my whole family and not weigh what that pig weighed. Now that the back end is all cleaned up, and ready for a bumper, I turned my attention back to the front. I'd seen a bit of surface rust on the metal underneath, up front. I did some digging...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Today's the day for trimming weight, it seems. Yesterday, I took off the front and rear bumpers. The front bumper will go back on, moved forward (and modified), after the winch is installed. This week, maybe?? As far as the rear bumper goes, I was a bit worried about adding the weight of...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Bob, you've got all kinds of spare stuff! Thanks for the offer - I've got a couple of chain hoists. Last weekend, I used those to pull 120 feet of 2-inch steel pipe out of our well. But, for this, I'm going to put a small ATV-sized winch under the back end. It will let me raise the tire and...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

I've taken the week off work, and a couple of days home are allowing some progress on the rig. Here's the short version of what's new: First, a double order of stainless steel off-cuts arrived from OnlineMetals.com - $20 for 20 pounds of assorted grab box fun, seems like a pretty good deal...

Thanks! No luck with a Google search for that part, but I'll dig it up - looks like a nice unit.

Hi, Hodakguy - who made that dust separator? You posted a great pic of it, and I zoomed in, but I'm not seeing any markings. Thanks!

Besides MaxTraxx, what traction boards/mats do you use?

Yeah... a *bit* heavy, I guess, but we've got a Freightliner conversion with a central storage location (between the cab and box). So, for us, they should work well. The aluminum ones would be a good find, though.
