Overland on a Budget for the rest of us

This has to be my all time favorite thread. Just got back from three days in my stock F350. I'm even running the stock hub caps. Run what you got. Brian

Replace Rear-Window Glass with Non-Transparent Material? Legal or Not?

The above statement is true in ARKANSAS. You must have two functional mirrors, so if you block the rear view, you must have a passenger side mirror. Brian

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

I had my two boilers at work coated with the ceramic coating and it made worlds of difference that you can tell just by walking into the boiler room. But...I also heard that coffee cups are ceramic and still need a handle, so.... Brian

I've never had either the Vortec or the Duramax, I'm a Ford Diesel guy and I'm not going back to gas anytime soon

    Good or Bad it's Mine

Thanks for the compliment. $500 is what I paid for this one. Here's a couple pics of the turkey woods last spring. The truck does an awesome job and the topper is good for what it is. I'm looking forward to getting this out in a couple weeks and see what I think. Brian

    Good or Bad it's Mine

The interior is not bad but is showing it's age. There's a little spot of water damage at the front left under the bunk. I'm still checking Craigslist every day for a more modern camper, but I want to get this one out a few times to truly see if this is something I want to invest in. I'm also...

    Good or Bad it's Mine

Ripper, That's what I was thinking/ I want to spend more time going than building. I Googled Vanguard campers and i think it's a pre-Palomino unit? If this turns into something that I spend real time doing and enjoying, I can more easily stomach spending money on a newer/nicer unit. I still...

    Good or Bad it's Mine

i found some water damage to the left front cab over section. I believe it's sealed now and I have it drying out. I'm debating on fixing it now or wait till I get it out a few times. I loved my topper and rack set up, but I'm 50 and have a hard time dressing while laying down. I'll get it out...

    Good or Bad it's Mine

I found what I think was a good buy on an old Pop up. I forgot to take pics before I started sealing it up. The only tag I can find says it's a Vanguard. I'm going to to a rattle can color match to my truck and see what it looks like. I coated the bottom as well as all the down facing surfaces...

Here's my 89CCLB 4x4 with 7.3IDI. This is as is when I bought it: Here's a couple from my first outing (turkey hunting) This group here is a bad influence. I've already modified a Harbor freight contractor rack over the camper and I'm going to put a carpet kit in it.:)

    Upsizing tires on OEM Wheels

A couple things come to mind. There is an alignment factor designed into the truck, Kingpin Inclination Angle. The camber and factory wheel/tire combo is set up to intersect the load in the center of the traction patch. Either your camber is off or you have changed the intersection point in...

    ACC Carpet Install

That's what I though too but, the front carpet has the indent for the rear bolts for the front seat but the rear carpet does not. I've got the rear seats going back in now...had to stop and get different bolts for the seat frames. Thanks, Brian

    ACC Carpet Install

I have a 2 piece going in the Suburban. Lap the front over the back or the back over the front? Thanks, Brian

I think 16's sound right for me. Brian

    One More Question

I have the 6.2 in this rig and like the "E" tires for that extra weight alone. It is getting harder and harder to find 15" tires. Brian

    One More Question

By biggest thing is finding load rated E tires on 15's. I'll be keeping my eyes out for a good deal on some wheels. Brian

    One More Question

If you had an 88 v10 Suburban and you were needing new wheels, would you stay with a 15" or go to a 16"? My suburban has these aluminum wheels where the lugs are counter sunk and you have to use a thin walled socket. If I swap them, I'm wanting some basic black steel wheels. Brian
