    Offroad jacks... really?

As a jack it looks great for gravel. To be clear I’m not knocking the jacks themselves, but more the trend and marketing angle of lugging them around on the back of a $3,000 swing-out bumper as if their usefulness actually justifies it.

Cap/Topper Style, flip up rear window or Barn Doors???

I always keep the tailgate, but I use my trucks as a trucks pretty frequently. Reconsider the swingout bumper, seems silly when you have a pickup bed. My Tundra fit a 35" tire in the factory spare well. If I recall I had to modify something, but that was a while ago. Swingout bumpers are...

    Offroad jacks... really?

True, there is actual use for this in a race where every second counts. That's a very small market, but one that would inspire a lot of folks to "look cool". Call me crazy, but form follows function. I just don't see the function. Sidenote, my buddy raced king of hammers in a Miata and...

    Offroad jacks... really?

Yeah everything will sink into the ground. If you're in that kind of terrain though, it seems reasonable to just relocated the vehicle before pulling the flat tire off, or use a floormat, skid plate, rock... there are many ways to spread the load out that a rolling floor jack doesn't make up...

    Offroad jacks... really?

Is this really something people are doing? Seems like a whole new level of useless crap/dead weight for mall crawlers. I know we are all gear dorks to some degree, but really? I've off-roaded a lot of places with a lot of 35" tires, had plenty of flats in precarious terrain... and I have...

    2UZ + DT headers, DT y-pipe + Yotawerx Tune (+33 HP + 47 TQ)

Yotawerx just released dyno charts on their tune for Doug Thorley LT headers; Stock 2UZ; 216 HP / 250 TQ +DTH/Y-Pipe; 226 HP / 265 TQ (+10 HP, +15 TQ) +DTH/Y-pipe/LT Tune; 249 HP / 297 TQ (+33 HP, +47 TQ) Impressive numbers I can only verify via butt dyno, as I have this setup. Drives...

ARB Prado 120 bull bar on GX470... Kinda fits...

If I recall the ARB weighs about 60-80 lbs more than the Ironman bumper. The mounting reinforcement is better, twice as thick, and it has built in recovery points. This is a case where you do get what you pay for. The LFD bumper on my last GX mounted similarly to the Ironman, and it bent my...

    GX 470 Rear Bumper Recommendations

I have a R4T rear bumper and a bison gear tailgate tire mount. I had a dual swingout bumper on my last GX and hated it. Would not buy one again. Makes it a pain in the ass to get to your cargo area. Also the prices are absurd for one of those, you don't get much out of it that you can't get...

    Toyota Tacoma build price

It adds up quick if you're buying quality stuff (ARB/Dobs/etc.). Not the least bit shocked, that honestly sounds cheap for a full build

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

If you think a Ridgeline is comparable to a Tundra, I’d also add that you’re an idiot.

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

Yes, we're talking about trucks in the American sense. Comparing a Honda Ridgeline to a Tundra is silly and your scruples are questionable at best. Having exterior cargo space does not make a vehicle a truck in the American sense. The Ridgeline is closer to a Highlander with a big open trunk...

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

All the above are unibody. Like I said, they don’t make trucks and they barely make SUVs.

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

The pinnacle of perfect truck to me is an 01-04 Tundra SR5 long bed, reg cab, 4x4 v8, automatic, in white. I had one with 330k on it. It’s the only vehicle in a long list that I regret selling.

Honda doesn’t make trucks, they barely make SUVs. The GM 350 is okay, the trucks they go in are mostly garbage.

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

Reliability isn't a category we were debating. We're in a Toyota/Lexus sub-forum... While we are on the topic though, I do find it humorous that Toyota not only managed to build the most reliable truck ever, but they built it right here in the US utilizing non-UAW labor. I'm not anti-union...

ARB Prado 120 bull bar on GX470... Kinda fits...

I can't say with experience, as I'd never buy their stuff in the first place, but the differences I see are cheesy marketing/branding, perpetual year round "20% off sales", and seemingly cheaper materials. Not exactly a Harbor Freight business model, but not far off. I didn't know they crash...

    2011 Tundra Front Bumper

ARB is the only solid choice IMO. Had one on my ‘10 Tundra and it was a beefcake. Rated to 15k lbs if I recall, and they have better frame reinforcement than any other bumper manufacturer.

MPG Numbers for 2024 Tacoma 2.4T No Hybrid

You'll get terrible mileage towing in any vehicle at real highway speeds (70-80MPH). In the video they are clearly doign ~75 MPH. 12.4 MPG is better than I would expect. 24.2 MPG is also higher than I would expect, not towing, even with an I4. 4 cylinder or not, it's still shaped like a brick.

is the 1st gen tundra one of the best platforms

No, far from it. Is it a great truck? Yes.... The only truck I would say is marginally better is the 2nd gen Tundra with a 5.7. 3rd gen Tundra is just a bloated pig with more lipstick. "Best Platform"? presumably for overlanding? Hell no, not even close. The aftermarket for a 1st gen...

2008 Tundra Overland Trailer Towing Advice

An '08 Tundra should have zero problems towing a 3000 lb trailer if it's set up right. Mainly just needs to be level. If your bed sags, get airbags. Either way, get used to slower driving. Towing ANYTHING sucks, and will consume gas at a much higher rate than you're used to.
