    House battery charging eating fuses

Hey guys, I helped a friend we met on the road with a 1997 VW bus. It's the old style, but water cooled with the same 1.8l from the early 90's Jettas. That's probably not important, but it's a neat rig. Built in Brazil for the Mexican market.. Anyway, he had his house battery wired into his...

    Custom camper friendly truck bed..

Thanks! The aluminum was fun to work with, I see some more alloy fab in my future. Maybe a way down the road, but I've got a few more things in mind. I really like the folding sides too.. I'm pretty short, so when there's no camper on board they offer a nice way to access the bed of the truck...

    Custom camper friendly truck bed..

We just passed through Mulege and really enjoyed it. We boondocked down on the beach a bit North of the lighthouse for a couple days. We loved all the twisty little streets, the old prison, and the good cell service.. We actually did stop by Alphonsinas, but we had breakfast. Not tacos, but...

2005 Silverado 6.0L, heading to Argentina.

Thanks for the tip on the fan. I thought of that too, but couldn't see anyplace it had been hitting. I'll park it up on a rock and check things out with it running. Now that the parking brake works, I'm not as nervous doing things like that.. :) I'm really enjoying the 285/75's. They're a great...

    Custom camper friendly truck bed..

So, I finally got this thing finished up and we've been on the road about two months now.. So far so good. We're really enjoying the extra storage space. It's nice to have all our recovery gear, tools, and camp stuff stored and organized outside of the camper. It also feels good to have it all...

    Viair Mounting Locatio

Hey guys, So I screwed around until the very last minute and I just stuck the thing into the spot over the muffler despite the heat.. So far, no problems at all. I realize that the thing gets hot enough to boil water on it's own, at that point I'm not sure the muffler itself is going to...

thumbs up for T-Mobile international data service

I signed up for T-Mobile to take advantage of this as well. I've been with Sprint a long time, but their most basic plan with international roaming was a bit more expensive, and their coverage (Movistar) hasn't been as good as T-Mo (Telcel) in Mexico. We're headed down the PanAm to Argentina...

2005 Silverado 6.0L, heading to Argentina.

Did them at around 120k and looked brand new. I figure they're good for another 80-100.

2005 Silverado 6.0L, heading to Argentina.

Hey guys, Sorry it's been so long since I updated, things got crazy there at the end.. We've been on the road now about 2 months and the truck's doing great. We're really enjoying the custom bed. We actually have EXTRA room for added stuff.. I also added a Viair compressor, replaced the 105...

New FWC Battery and Relay Install

You were totally correct about the FWC wiring. The battery didn't even have to be deeply discharged to drop the voltage enough at the regulator to disconnect it. I was planning to wire heavier wire in anyway, but it turned out to be a necessity. I have 2/0 welding wire running front to back to...

    Custom camper friendly truck bed..

All the main fabrication is done. I'm going to sink some rivets into this baby, do a little finish work and then load the camper up for a weekend. Next week it all comes back apart and off to powder!

    Custom camper friendly truck bed..

Boxes! Boxes built and installed.. I also threw it up on the forklift again, to make sure everything flexed where it was designed to and nothing broke. So far so good, but I'm guessing the roads of Baja and central America will do a better job of exposing weaknesses.. Bedsides this weekend...

    Custom camper friendly truck bed..

All four boxes (two front saddle, two rear-under bed) will be bolted to the truck bed, not welded on. I wanted to let them move and flex independently as much as possible to hopefully reduce cracking on rough roads. I also want to give a quick shoutout to Sketchup- everything that has come out...
