How did you like your CampX? Any mods after the trip?

    Insulation using, Spray Foam

Looks like hard work. But unless you insulate the aluminum ribs you won´t have very good insulation and condensation issues. These ribs are a perfect thermal bridge.

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

I own the first prototype and use it in fairly cool conditions near Banff Alberta. I convinced Mark to build the prototype because of the bad experience I had with a FWC Hawk on a trip to Inuvik in fall. I have never camped in the CampX in winter (lowest was about 15F) but especially my son uses...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

The math is simple. They are way over GVWR. A CampX with water, gear food etc. will be close to 2000 lbs. A Hawk about the same others like Palomino or Northstar are heavier, hardside TC a lot heavier. Most 1/2 ton TC can deal with the CampX especially if you improve the rear suspension. But...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

I can confirm this observation. A few years ago we traveled to Inuvik in late August with an aluminum framed camper (FWC Hawk) and had the problems Chad described. We therefore convinced Marc to build the first prototype of the CampX. We tested it on multiple trips to the Northwest Territories...

Hourless Life: Documenting Our Global Overland Adventure

Hi Eric, We haven't really posted any blogs in the last years. Just pictures on Facebook. Right now we travel a little in the neighborhood until more destinations open up. Central and South America is fairly easy and beautiful in normal times. There is a lot of information online. My only...

Hourless Life: Documenting Our Global Overland Adventure

Have fun and safe travels. Welcome to the community of international travelers. You will be surprised how many are on the road. They are mostly Europeans though. We have been doing essentially what you are planing to do since 2010 to March 2020. Right now we are kind of stuck for obvious...

adblue availability in Africa and South America

You can buy ad blue emulators . They trick the engine management into believing that there is ad blue in the system when there is none. The engine doesn´t need ad blue to operate. Running it without is technically no problem. Lots of truck operators do this to save money. It is illegal of...

Overland Explorer Expedition Cabin on 2020 Ford F350

I don't know if Timbrens would help with your problem. My F 150 doesn't have overload springs. In my case the Timbren act a bit like overload springs. They engage when the rear starts sagging and stiffens the rear suspension. The ride gets more stable.

Overland Explorer Expedition Cabin on 2020 Ford F350

The F 150 has Timbrens on the rear axle and e-rated AT tires, otherwise stock. The Transit had slightly larger tires (225/75R16 instead of 215/75) and stronger coil springs in the front resulting in a total lift of a little over 2 inches. On the rear axle I had airbags, which was a mistake. I...

Overland Explorer Expedition Cabin on 2020 Ford F350

I have driven a Transit AWD at full GVWR in Africa and Latin America from 2010 to 2019 for a total of almost 100,000 miles. Obviously we drove on a lot of bad roads, washboard and sometimes offroad. Apart from at least 10 flats and 2 blown tires we replaced the rear shocks after about 20,000...

Gasoline VS Diesel Engine for World Land Cruising

Modern diesel engines with emission control systems are problematic in some parts of the world if you spend a lot of time there: 1. They need DEF, sometimes difficult or impossible to get. 2. They need ultra low (less than 15 ppm) or at least low (less than 50 ppm) sulphur diesel. Otherwise the...

    2020 Ford Transit AWD

Yes the European system is integrated into the 6 speed manual transmission and is mechanical /hydraulic. There are zero common parts with the US system.

I know you speak German. Check out this website https://www.extremfahrzeuge.com/transit-4x4/ . It looks like 10 cm or 4 inches.

    2020 Ford Transit AWD

In the European Transit both cv joints have the same length. They are both long enough for a lift.

Any recommendations for a shipping company from Morocco to the US?

Once you are in Europe shipping to the US is no problem. There are various options. Right now the problem is to ship from Morocco to Europe. Morocco is a favourite destination for older folks with RVs to spend the winter. Unfortunately ferry service was suspended because of Corona. Lots of snow...

    Full Size Overlanding In Namibia/Botswana?

I think we are talking about the Sacu (South African Customs Union) with Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and the little countries inbetween. We are not talking about the Congos or Central Africa. were infrastructure (or the lack thereof) is very challenging. If you really want to go there we...
