    '06 GMC K2500 Buildup

Wife ran the Crown King Scramble this past weekend. First time I'd been up there. She ran up the "back way" in 6 hours 12 minutes and was the 7th female finisher. She said it was tough. Fastest runner was 3hrs 50min. He passed a few Jeeps on the way up that never caught him again till they...

Surprised No One Is Talking About Cat Thefts

Not that it's easy to steal, thanks to the center skid covering it, but I replaced the cat on my TJ with a resonator, or more specifically, I used a forward pipe intended for the leaded fuel market... The resonator looks just like a glasspack. Looks legit at inspection, costs $20 to replace...

New, ?Tire Safety Recall Announced for “Light Truck” Tires, several “brands” and sizes involved

You misunderstand... I meant to say that if you have what most of us consider All Terrain or more aggressive tires, your tires are not included... However, I was only looking at the Cooper link, which shows this: Clicking on those specific recalls shows only pass car rated tires in very mild...

New, ?Tire Safety Recall Announced for “Light Truck” Tires, several “brands” and sizes involved

FWIW, if you have any sort of all terrain tire in the brands listed, you're not going to get a free tread wear reset unfortunately... None of the recalled tire models/sizes are "LT" designated tires, and they're all very mild street oriented P-designated tires in pretty small overall or large...

Might be getting a TJ, what to look for.

'97 is a pretty good year. Best year would be a '99 IMO. In 2000 they went to the WJ version of the 4.0L that has a coil pack. That engine misses when you cold start it, and there wasn't a power gain thanks to tightened emissions. '99 has the WJ intake, which was probably a bit of a HP gain...

Chevy Express ignition wiring power source

See if your van has a wire under the dash for an aftermarket trailer brake controller. If so, you'll probably have to connect it to a stud in the fuse box, but that's a great source for interior power if you're keeping it under 30a or so... Edit My bad, the trailer brake controller feed is...

    Is my steering box bad?

If they set the lash right on center, it may be a bit tight off center, so that't not necessarily a concern unless you feel it once it's installed... FWIW, the unit in our brush truck was also a bit tight, with no lash, but upon installation, it has absolutely no seering feel. You can steer...

    Is my steering box bad?

That sux. The salvage yard here knows what vehicle it came from and how many miles were on it. I'd still go with a tight salvage unit over a reman. The Oreilly sourced reman we put in our brush truck sucks... The box in my 290k GMC is far better... Just my experience.

Well, 6 months have passed with the turbo brake hooked up and the turbo still tosses out vane position codes when it's cold. I've towed heavy with it several times, and put some exhaust system cleaner through it as well. At this point, it's likely that there is some corrosion on the ring from...

    Goodyear Aquires Cooper Tires

I'm running the CXT's too. I have 255/80R17's on my truck and 255/85R16's on my TJ. Both working well and wearing well though the truck needs them rotated, since they've been on it for at least 10k. They do make some noise, but all real tires do. :) I actually like them a little better than...

    Is my steering box bad?

FWIW, getting one from a junkyard means you can be pretty sure it was assembled by the OEM supplier, and you know it has however many miles were on the truck. Getting a reman means it went to the end of some truck's life, and was inspected, and got new seals and paint. OR it was a core return...

    GMT900 Overland build anyone?

Someone asked about the 2500 version so I'll chime in with a bit more info. The light duty 900 SUV's use the same chassis components as the LD 900 pickups, excepting coil rear vs. leaf spring. The 2500 version SUV's use the same chassis as the 2500HD GMT 800 trucks, going back to ~2000, and...

    Aux Fuel Tank Thoughts

I have considered having a slim 20 or so gallon tank made for the front of my bed. It would set my truck camper back perhaps four inches, but I also have a tonneau and a topper for the truck, so filling becomes an issue. If I am honest with myself, I simply don't need extra capacity in today's...

    Goodyear Aquires Cooper Tires

I shouldn't be so hard on them... I did run a set of the directional MT's a long time ago, and a set of original MT/R's not quite so long ago. Both did well for me. But they're long gone, and all that's left is low tread OE style tires, and a REALLY expensive MT/R Kevlar or something like...

    Goodyear Aquires Cooper Tires

There was a sale scare perhaps 5 years ago, but it didn't go through. I'm doubtful that good things will come about due to this acquisition. Goodyear has zero tires that I like presently, while Cooper/Mastercraft have several. I wonder what will become of the sub brands that Cooper also...

    Thinking about Trailbalzer

Skrypj, I don't know that I'd recommend this as a great option, since it only has full time 4wd with no way to even lock the center diff, but it is intersting to know that there was a Saab version of the SS. I had to GTS to confirm... I didn't know it even existed, and I worked on that...

    Improve Chevy Express Offroad Performance

PS, you're from my homeland... Where at in MI? I came out to CO about 10 years ago, and I still miss the UP, but not the rust. :)

    Improve Chevy Express Offroad Performance

Ok, so you just unwittingly said what I feared... Your tires do not "take" 80psi unless that's what the door tag says, and even then, they only need that much pressure if you are running fully loaded to GVW. If you've gone to larger than stock tires, they will take slightly less pressure to...

    Improve Chevy Express Offroad Performance

Three things I read in your inquiry. First, the "shudder" is wheel hop, and it is a VERY good indication that you are running too much pressure for the (soft) surface you are on. If you are running the pressure on the door, or the side of the tire, and you're driving the van mostly unloaded...
