120 volt tankless air compressor is much faster than 12v for airing up

Great post, and a good idea too! It's very simple folks... P = I x V, or spelled out, Power equals Current times Voltage. With 10x more voltage, you need 10x less current to get the same power. The 120v pump the OP listed pulls 7.5A at 120V which is (7.5Ax120V) 900 Watts of "power" for...

Do we really need a spare?

Entertaining if not fairly accurate for the "average" car owner... Plus he rips on bean counters at auto mfg's as the real issue. I couldn't agree more.

    Travel tools for rental car?

Not a dumb idea IMO. I considered this question with our recent trip to Iceland where we rented a Jimny for 11 days... I ended up with the following, (some linked as recommendations): Collection of mini fuses (Figuring at least the 12v accy fuse would be blown, but it actually wasn't...) A...

    Kill switches

When I must leave my vehicles for a while at airport parking areas or sketch downtown areas I tend to pop the hood and pull the starter relay. I plug it into a "blank" spot and drop the hood. Figure most thieves want to get in and go, and are probably not watching me park or willing to...

Do we really need a spare?

Wow, 9 pages on whether or not "we" really need a spare tire... This question is akin to whether or not you should wear your seatbelt, or have airbags in your vehicle, or if you should wear underwear under your kilt IMO... :) FWIW, I have full size spares on all our vehicles. I also have...

    AEV quits the JK

You also have to remember that most of AEV's sales go to vehicles that are new or nearly new, not old used vehicles. AEV's sales drop off significantly after a platform is replaced because dealers install a good portion of their product on new vehicles. There are SO MANY lift companies...

    Off road minivan

The term "offroad minivan" is usually applied to the Wrangler, not the GC. The GC is really more of an on road minivan... Quadra trac is just a fancy name for AWD. I suspect it's a clutch engaged front system, rather than true full time 4wd, particularly in the lower trim levels... The...

    1986 GMC S-15

Wife and I went to Iceland in June this year, and we'll be going again in 2024. In 2023, we'll be coming up to your back yard and hanging out for a couple of weeks, also in June. A bit early, but we escape the month of gnats that plague this place every June. Thanks so much for keeping...

    1986 GMC S-15

Thanks for keeping us up to date!! Everythign looks great. I have about zero faith in any newer aftermarket CV boot. They're all made of cheap rubber of some sort that cracks after it's a year or so old. Hard to find a CV brand that uses good boots anymore. :( Word to the wise on that XJ...

    Am I being ridiculous?

If you are planning to get a sxs, you might hold off on the Ram until after you do... I can't see using a truck to do any sort of "crawling" when you have a sxs. Just saying... :) 5000lbs is a LOT of trailer and sxs... I should think you would have a hard time getting over about 3500lbs...

'86 Comanche Long bed, Slow build...

End of the driveable portion of the Hole in the Rock trail. Cottonwood canyon and actual Hole in the Rock notch in the background. There are posts here marking the original route, but I have read that much of the original road was shoveled from sand and is now gone. I have seen pictures from...

So much for clutch and limited slip pics... Everything worked out fine with the clutch. Pedal now works like it's supposed to, and my wife can drive without needing the seat all the way forward, which is much better for me, and useful because adjusting it is a pain, so having it work for both...

    Cummins 2.8 Swap

Nothing. I bought one for my nephew last year, and found several others for sale. I think many owners are hanging onto them "till death do us part" at this point. Plenty of them have probably ended up in junkyards due to rust in the midwest or accidents. I imagine that they have been...

    Cummins 2.8 Swap

Aside from CRD Liberties, there were no 2.8l diesel Jeeps in the US in 2012. They didn't sell many CRD liberty models anyway, and their slow disappearance certainly has nothing to do with the CFC... Are you thinking of the gas 2.8l cherokees built from '84 to '86? I'm sure many of them would...

    Cummins 2.8 Swap

Are you talking about the Colorado/Canyon 2.8L in the US? I hadn't thought about that. It is a descendant of the VM 2.8 used in the CRD. Just gotta find a wrecked baby dmax colorado... And do a whole lot of programming I bet... Looks like the going price on car-part.com is about $6k...

    Cummins 2.8 Swap

My buddy did a Cummins 2.8 conversion on his early Bronco. He's running 35's IIRC, and he is pretty happy with the 2.8. It crawls along nicely, and is torquey. I don't think mileage is spectacular, as the main limit is aerodynamics, and an early Bronco on 35's is, well, not aerodynamic in any...

Thanks Jack, I'm sure we well have a great time!! I'll be curious to see if the Comanche is able to get up the big ledge, as recent vids of it show it to be getting quite tall! I think the rest will be pretty easy for it. Next project is getting the clutch to work properly. While the...

1999 Jeep Cherokee radiator upgrade-need recommendations

I'll second that the factory system is fine when of the parts are working properly. Typically, when people have overheating issues on XJ's, it's one of three things: 1. They drive like they're in a TV commercial and the radiator and condensor are plugged with mud from splashing through puddles...
