Should I buy a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road?

Toyota has had numerous 1st year issues with each tundra model... latest Tundra's are dropping turbos, waste gates, valves, rod bearings, etc... First 5.7's were dropping cams... 1st 3.4's were blowing HG's. etc. etc... Toyota is NOT immune to issues.

You don't need the aftermarket if the manufacturer made it the best platform already. :p

How is highway driving with a 2024 4runner TRD Off-Road

10000% We put 76k on our 2015 4runner, including a few cross country trips. Replaced with a gx and it’s night and day better… for almost the same price. 10/10 will not go back to a 4runner.

Are you running the drive flanges on the front? Iirc, mini truck selectable hubs will work on that axle as well. Can’t remember if solid axle or ifs spline count, though

Take The Truck's First Gen Tacoma Build

were you able to sneak the front diff out w/o lifting the engine? I tried for hours on mine, but I couldn't snake it out. Ended up lifting the engine 2"... Made a tool to hold it in place.

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

what's extreme about the fact of that Toyota built flexible frames? Seriously - what's extreme about acknowledging that? What have I made up? You made the claim - support it with evidence, please. Dana corp getting sued doesn't remove any of Toyota's culpability. That's just another...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

hard to design something that adds protection that decreases stiffness, isn't it? I've personally never seen a single modification to a vehicle that intentionally decreases stiffness of a frame. Please share if you know of some. Re: intentional or unintentional, you'd have to ask each...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

Ever notice that every single offroad modification for Toyotas adds stiffness to the frame? Bumpers, sliders, skids, etc. AccessCab - 1st gen tundra. Not 2nd gen. Frame isn't much different... What unwarranted assertion have I made? I've stated the frame is a wet noodle and it's NOT the end...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

So net/net... the determination off road capability is the amount of times a vehicle can keep it's wheels on the ground? And if the only way to get that is to drive a wet noodle, then okay? Not following the logic at all. Again... seems like a lot of defense of Toyota's decisions where they...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

That's my point - what is the entire package? Would I say my IFS doublecab is better offroad than my SAS'd xtracab? Depends on the situation... depends on if I'm allowed to use lockers in one, but not the other. Depends on the type of "off road" we're discussing. We're literally trying to...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

honestly, I don't know. I would assume more rigidity in the crew cab because of that. IIRC, the frame is "boxed" farther back than the AC as well.

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

That means nothing until a person goes back to all design considerations. Same front suspension travel? Same sway bars? Same rear suspension travel? Same sway bars? Same wheelbase? Same spring rates? Same tire size? Same tire pressure? Until all other variables are eliminated, saying that one...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

They tear. The access cab most prone. Because the frame flexes under the cab. I know of at least one person on this forum who had that issue.

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

Define offroad. Almost all great, competitive offroad vehicles have non-wet-noodle frames. From high-speed desert to rock crawling to over-landing to camel trophy. Sure… someone will claim “but my unimog!” Again… it’s people looking for areas to defend Toyota’s choices. Shoot… people in this...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

Flexy May not mean weak. But it also doesn’t mean strong. It’s all “yeah, but”-ism. Just like the justification for better ride… when competitors who sell many times more vehicles are on a completely different page. Of course, someone will jump in with “yeah… but boxed frames rust.” And...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

It is nonsense. Anyone who uses a flexible frame to make up for poor suspension tuning is using a crutch. And then to have people defend it like Toyota engineers are smarter than all other truth MFG’s is equally a cop out. Toyota engineers are not gods. They are not better than engineers at...
