    2016 Colorado Diesel

Few thoughts, my semi is a push button automatic, most of our fleet of trucks are, ranging between 40K and 120K miles, no complaints at all, they are the way of the future. As for the Colorado/Canyon, my problem, GM wants some ridiculous pricing, stopped at a local dealer the other day, they...

    Tire chains specific for mud?

tire chains are tire chains. I've used my chains for the semi on snow, ice and mud. They will work better for snow/ice, most of the time they work for mud. As a rule with the 4wd, if I need tire chains for mud, I'm better off using my winch.

    Subaru xv owner checking in

My ex gf and her parents used to have a couple of boxes of those insulators in the garage. They had a cabin up in the mountains, and those things were all over from when the power lines were installed, they had a lot of brown or red brown colored. Don't know what she did with them. Any time we...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

Sadly, most of the stuff in my area, in the $4K to $5K range, at least in a 4wd, are ultra high mileage, at least 10 to 15 yrs old and have a sketchy history. Again, if I'm going to spend $5K for something, that I might have to put another $5K in to keep running for 2 or 3 three years, I would...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

I make much more than $40K a year, my numbers I posted were rounded off low, and don't take into account my wife's income either. But, here's the rain in Ramsay's parade, he and others will tell you to pay cash for a vehicle, and don't buy more than you can afford. I have a nephew who does...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

I am looking at something between 2012 and 2015 models, but, I don't want the headaches that come from high miles. As someone else pointed out, at 100K, I may need to start looking at a trans rebuild depending on how it was cared for. I put $4,400 into a rebuilt trans on my Dakota a year ago, I...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

I've stretched my search out to about 250 miles from home, I just have to be careful though because the taxes on doing that can be a killer. If I buy in Wyo. they won't collect Colo. taxes, so when I go for plates, they will want $3,000 in taxes plus other fees.

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

I was reading up on the Frontier forums about some common issues between the Pathy, Xterra and Frontier. It's really seems to vary by the vehicle as well, my neighbor traded off her '07 Frontier for '15 Arcadia back in Feb., mainly because of needing interior space. I was asking her about the...

Problem is, that $8K price increase translates to $150/month increase in truck payment, on an income that can vary wildly every month, I have to base the payment on my minimum monthly income, not my average monthly income. 6 months of the year I bring home $4,500/month, 3 months of the year I...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

I'd love to know where to find a new Z-71 Silverado 1/2 ton in the low $30's, base is $41K in my area. At the same dealer in my other post, I did look at a 2013 lease return, sticker was $35,900. That issue with the Pathfinder, I think that was a certain year range of issue. My wife had a '94...

I've looked at the Colorado/Canyon, but GM is wanting ridiculous pricing, and they aren't dealing on them either. Co-worker just tried to buy a Z-71 packaged Colorado, sticker was a hair over $40K, dealer told him to take it or leave it. Also, it appears either they aren't selling well in my...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

the only reason I'm contemplating the full-size is for the diesel option. I've gone 15 yrs with my Dakota, so staying in a mid-size with the Frontier is the only reason I contemplate it. I've never even come close to the towing capacity of my Dakota, which is the same as the Frontier. But, I'd...

Opinions needed on new vehicle choice

I'm debating between a brand new 2014/2105 Nissan Frontier Pro-4x or a newer Ram 2500/3500. My budget is $31K max. For that price, I can get a brand new Frontier from several dealers. But, when I look at Ram's, I find either 10 yrs old, or 3 to 4 yrs old with 100K + miles and unknown service...

    Nissan Xterra Discontinued in U.S.

There has been mentions of a diesel in the next gen Frontier, too bad they couldn't keep the X around a little longer and put the same in it, that would bump the epa numbers

2015 Chevrolet Colorado is Motor Trend's 2015 Truck of the Year

Have seen a couple of the new Colorado's in person, if you look at the lines of it, it's basically a 3/4 scale Tundra, especially the shaping where the cab/bed meet. Also had a chance to sit inside one, not overly impressed, for the price, you could buy a Frontier Pro4x or loaded Tacoma.

Is the Pro 4x Worth it?

Just for giggles, an exp. capable driver, can make up for what a vehicle is lacking, and coax it into, through, or over terrain that it might not otherwise go. Years ago, I wheeled 2wd Vans and pickups places that I was told I would never go. I made several exp. off-roaders look like fools for...

The Perfect Vehicle-Mounted Medical/First Aid Bag

I carry a fully stocked level 1 trauma center, in red, but I don't know how to use it................the point being, if you don't have the skills ahead of time, you're just putting wet leaves on it. This is what I carry, you can also see my fire extinguisher below it, it sits on the hump...

Considering switching to Nissan - should I??

Few years back, my wife had a '94 Pathfinder, kinda wish we had not gotten rid of it, but there was a CEL that had multiple people stumped (finally ended up being the emissions system had to be replaced, by someone else). I am also in the same position as you, debating to replace my 2000 Dodge...

    Ford F550 vs. Ram 5500

While I'm naturally biased towards Dodge, I would suggest the OP look at the Earthroamer trucks, they are 90% built on a Ford F-550 chassis cab configuration, that starts life as a dually, and is converted to a single rear wheel, using 37" tires on beadlocks. Yes, the price of a built ER is 6...
