How rare?

Kind of rare from what I have seen. I've got a '99 2.7 5spd w factory e locker and manual windows/doorlocks. Recently eclipsed 217K and still on the original clutch. With the 3RZ, I believe the valves need to be checked (especially the exhaust) at about 100K and every 50K or so thereafter...

Need help on 05 Sequoia - Limited air suspension failing - bought LC 100 springs

I contemplated swapping out the airbags for coils on a vehicle (GX470) but found these guys: http://www.suncoreindustries.com/TOYOTA-Sequoia-suspension.php Although I had a different vehicle, the concepts are similar. There are 3 components which are suspect: - Airbag (most likely) link =...

Prepping High Mileage 2.7l for Hot Weather Road Trip

What year is your Tacoma? Valvetrain might be something good to have checked if you have time. Before I had my head rebuilt, I had a slight misfire which wouldn't go away even after changing both coils, plugs, wires and running several bottles of injector cleaner. I drove it this way for...

    Adjustable performance coil overs.

I went with Icon's remote reservoir shock with the adjustable damping control (CDC). Some points: - Fully loaded, I'm at 5800 lbs. I have 550lb fronts (collars cranked) and OME 861s and I have them set at level 1. Non CDC equipped Icons are equivalent to setting #4 of 10 (1 being softest)...

    Shovel recommendations? Seems simple but....

I think you should have 2: - One which you use to bury #2 - Another to help get your vehicle unstuck The Gerber is only about 1foot long when extended so it's way too small to unstuck a vehicle. But it works well for what I described. An E-tool makes a viable candidate but it's quite a bit...

Most popular stove's used in Overlanding

My first stove was a Coleman Gladiator: While it doesn't have the side deflectors of the partner stove, I find that the burners are better protected from wind by virtue of the 'risers' such that it performs (in my opinion) better than the partner in windy conditions even with the foldable wind...

    3rd gen 4Runner suspension

Too bad I recently upgraded my rear suspension with SS parts- otherwise I'd be all over this. GLWS

Big Bend Memorial Day pt 2

Yes; even found a location to 'camp' Took a right at the fork, went another 400ft or so and took a lunch break. I didn't have a thermometer that day but it felt every bit of 100F - in the shade! Definitely on my list of places to re-visit.

    Compressor fridge recommendations.

I opted to go with a National Luna 60- a bit on the pricey side but: a) It has independent controls for the fridge and freezer section-both can be set to make ice b) Heat and scratch resistant stainless exterior c) Nearly silent operation d) Low amp draw I've been really happy with mine but it...

Big Bend Memorial Day pt 2

Continuing from pt 1... So the plan for day 2 was to explore Chisos Basin. "] The road leading to up to Chisos Basin is paved but makes up for it (in my mind) with a simply amazing vistas. I couldn't believe I was still in Texas. "] "] "] So I got 'tricked' into...

Big Bend National Park Memorial Day Weekend pt 1

So it's been a while since my last trip...Ana and I were thinking about Big Bend National Park (BBNP) thanks to RockMidget's superb photo skills(!) but to be honest, I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it. 3 days prior to trip date, my radiator sprung a leak about 3 miles from home. I'm just glad...

    Mogollon Rim for Thanksgiving

Awesome! Just another reason ExPo is such a great site; we all inspire one another.

    Mogollon Rim for Thanksgiving

I'm using Delorme's TOPO North America Version 10.0 (~$85) but you'll need a GPS antenna. (USGlobalSat BU353-S4 USB GPS Receiver ~$35). I'm pretty happy with the setup as it has provided me with the ability to navigate when cell phone nav fails. However, I might consider 'upgrading' to some type...

    Mogollon Rim for Thanksgiving

You'll have a blast. I've also been researching trips- Big Bend National park in Texas looks like a strong contender if you don't feel like driving all the way to AZ from NJ.

    Mogollon Rim for Thanksgiving

Yep, I couldn't believe there weren't others. There is actually another area to the left or 1/10 mile north- similar elevation but it was full of melting ice and mud puddles. In summer or warmer months, this would definitely be an option.

    Mogollon Rim for Thanksgiving

There was barely enough room to hold the gear itself! Once kids come, I agree it will be time for a trailer of some sort.

    Mogollon Rim for Thanksgiving

Having stopped in Prescott to have Adventure Trailers install a fridge slide and drawer set up in my vehicle, I was off to Mogollon Rim with my girlfriend. (pictures actually start from Phoenix since I had to make a trip to the airport.) Here's a cell phone pic of the new set up- kind of hard to...

    Collection of Build Threads

99Yota's build thread I've had the vehicle since new so naturally, it's gone through some changes over the years. In the picture above, I am running a 1.5" Cornfed spacer lift up front to clear the 32" Terra Grapplers, and Downey Silver coils which are a little taller then the factory 99 rear...

    Uwharrie Camping- Dickey Bell 1

Yep, I just haven't gotten around to wiring up the included harness to 12V and since I already had an inverter wired up... New tires are on the way; just don't see the utility in ditching the current setup with as few miles. I'm likely going to go with 33" km2's when the time comes.

    Uwharrie Camping- Dickey Bell 1

One side effect, if you can call it that is that I have never had an issue with moisture inside the unit. The high temperatures inside helps dry out humidity. When inside during the day, I've had to open the vents as it does feel warm without out them open but I suspect this would be the case...
