    First Time CB Help

But you DO want the SHIELD of the coax grounded. If the mount is properly installed the shield goes to ground and the center pin if the coax goes to the antenna. There should be a plastic bushing keeping the mount/shield/ground and the antenna/center pin/connector from touching.

    VHF...

VHF means a lot. Marketing wise you have VHF low band 49-70 MHz, VHF high band 130-174 MHz, then 220 mhz. CB means the 40 channels on 26-27MHZ. You also have FRS and GMRS around 460Mhz. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    First Time CB Help

I was thinking of checking the cable for a bad connector first. Second remove the spring and see if it changes this. After that gets more interesting. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Best way to mount any antenna is drilling the hole. No question about it. Only hurts the first time. I promise. :) To learn a lot about antenna mounting for HF see http://www.k0bg.com . Fantastic resource for learning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That set-up will work ok on the 20m to 10m bands. Not so well below there. 40m a Hamstick will suffice but not very well. Below that need a bit more for an effective antenna. glad you are getting out and even better someone using digital! Hope to work you someday!

    First Time CB Help

Well right now let's confirm the antenna is the problem. You oughtta hear something as is. Not ideal but something. Best way would be drilling a hole and mounting it electrically and mechanically to car body. Then connecting body and frame. But before any of that let's male sure the parts work...

    First Time CB Help

Ok this is a huge help. I am assuming the radio lights up on power up. I am assuming you can hear noise from a speaker. So couple things: 1) wriggle the coax at the radio and antenna. Do you hear a change in the static level as you do so? If yes then take the cable off and check it for...

I mounted the rig inside the drivers rear on the side panel. Using the supplied bracket for my 8900, and other radios previously, I used a self tapping screw to hold the bracket to the plastic panel. I ran my power cable under the door jams and seats but with a water issue consider dropping the...
