    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Oh it's a good feeling, My reworked 6th pipe is just right. The header is in and fits sweet. It is not fully welded yet. To get it in there I had to lift the body and the steering column gets disconnected from the box and swung up out of the way. To slide the collector on the cat can slide back...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

No pictures yet but I think I have the last header tube reworked to be equal with the others, and fit in the chassis, I hope. Not sure if I will take it outside for pictures first or trial fit it in the chassis. Just waiting on last nights snow to go away.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Yah, a bit beyond the average fabrication job, I have been building headers, not simple ones but real headers since the mid 70s. My first customer set was built on a rather radical '70 Camero road coarse car. I hand formed the steel fender flairs, not flat wrapped sheetmetal, they were all...

    Monteros on craigslist

Clean, probably gone before I can get in tough and make shipping arrangements.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

The rear cylinder's tube is shorter than all of the other 5. The others are within an inch for the torque peak. Now that the steering column is out I am pretty sure I will cut apart that rear tube, clock it forward from the port, it will need to turn out under the steering column and back over...

WTB early Montero Gen 2 steering column.

I have a need to a non- airbag steering column for a Montero. Both the upper and lower section are desired. Before I bought my Pajero project someone hired a shop to get the play out of the steering which in this case are worn splines in the lower column section. Some marvel of a mechanic felt...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

I now have the right side headers tack welded. These started being tough to work on being this is a RHD chassis. The headers need to snake around the starter and stay clear of the steering column. Earlier today I had to remove the steering so I could even reach down, or up to fit the last tube...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

I can now start working back over the Tbar crossmember then up and over the axle and snake it's way over the panhard bar and past the gas thank. Not sure if this will be fun or not. Possibly once I am that far the right side header will be done, O2 bungs installed and the snow might be gone...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Progress on the left header, it is finish welded an back in the chassis. CXRacing F'ed me over on a second collector, I am using 1 3/4OD lower tube and they sent me one 1 3/4 and a 1 5/8. I sent a request and photos but in two weeks nothing no replacement. In the meantime I had bought a...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Got a chance to bring the left side header outdoors for a look. These are 1/3 welded at this point. They fit the chassis nice and they even can be installed and removed with only dropping the front propshaft, which itself is not removable.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

There is room there, the joint is well forward from the tubes, what is close is the tube that runs parallel to the shaft, that is 1/2 inch or so and will get a reflector between them.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

There will be an assortment of heat shields built around areas, That joint does not look to dang close but the engine mount in front of it, one tube is closer than I wanted so it will need a shield. The shaft might end up with a shield by the end of this build though. I have not gotten to...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Left side header tubes. One tube needs some trimming at it's last joint into the collector. Otherwise it is ready for welding the tube joints. This side is harder to snake in and out than the right which has the steering column, but then the right has one tube not completed yet. I am still...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Here is the left side collector and cat being tack welded together. I am utilizing V band clamps to allow disassembly.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

I got some more time on this resulting in a second tube in the right header. It is difficult to get decent shots in this confined space but probably better than I will get on the left side.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

On the ground, not enjoyable as one ages. I have a 4x4 block of wood under each tire that gives me enough room without being to far a reach. I bought a lift 20 years ago but the ceiling in my garage is way to low, I am thinking I need to cut a section out. But I live with an oddity, back in 1999...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

I finally have something to show of my work. I am back working on the headers and have the first of six tubes all the way into a collector. Behind the crossmember is the right side cat. And looking forward. The center and rear cylinder need to snake around and into the lower tubes of the...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Believe it or not I have started back on this project, I am working on the lower tubes of the stepped headers and machining the O ring reliefs in the collector flanges. The break I took was getting back to the airplane I am building since that was set aside when the Pajero project began. That is...
