I believe you are correct and I agree. Especially for those crazy people overlanding all over Africa;)

    Cargo Netting Storage?

Yeah I don't think I'll ever trust another Smittybilt product again. Figure once I get back up to Arkansas in a little more than a week, I might run to the local surplus store and see what they have to offer. Might just see if they have some strong, cheap straps available and use those instead...

    Cargo Netting Storage?

I've been considering more options of utilizing more space in my TJ (since it lacks cargo room as is) but also keeps organization clean but allows me to continue to utilize my backseat (meaning backseat will be in and out of the Jeep). I've considered drawers but again that removes the use of my...

Needs additional love but it's not too bad

Experiences with different brands of rear tire carrier.

Wouldn't touch Smittybilt. If anything, they are known for rattling to death after a few months and are known to rust quickly. I don't know much about XJ bumpers but know JCR makes a quality product and have heard good things about Rock Hard 4x4 bumpers in the past. If it were me, I would find...

    3.73 vs 4.10 debate (V8 TJ)

AX15 has a final drive ratio of .79. For comparison people regear to 4.56 with 33" tires and the 4.0. Considering most V8s love lower RPMs I would assume taller gears would be more appropriate for the 5.9. However, I assume. I have no knowledge of the 5.9's powerband

    3.73 vs 4.10 debate (V8 TJ)

Mostly about matching your gears with your tire size+final drive ratio+engine powerband for further clarification.

    3.73 vs 4.10 debate (V8 TJ)

Hard call. I feel like 4.10 gearing would be a better compromise for mpg and power. You'll be hovering around 2.5k RPMs @75mph with 33s and 4.10 gearing. Good to see you back around

More like party time! I'm curious to see how this swap turns out:)

    31" Tires

To this day I say that if I had gotten my TJ Rubicon stock, I would have stayed with the stock tire size (31" tires), instead I started with 33s and I'm now on 32s. Nothing wrong with running 31" tires. A good line and little tires can get you a lot of places without compromising for fuel...

    SilicaRich's Overland TJ Rubicon Build

I would have to check with the cost to replace the input shaft on T case in order to pair the AX15. That cost would probably fall in that miscellaneous cost I put above. The cost served more or less as a precautionary cost that would either be added, subtracted, or something in between to the...

    SilicaRich's Overland TJ Rubicon Build

Itinerary For Transmission Swap After a little discussion on Wrangler Forum my two transmission choices have pretty much been narrowed down to the NV3550 or AX15, both at which are nearly a direct bolt in swap. The only hiccup with the AX15 is getting the transmission paired to the 241 Rubi...

I feel like coating isn't a big deal at least for me. Worst case scenario, you throw down some cardboard and spray a few coats of black rustoleum. My Gobi even has its spots where the finish is gone after two years but its mainly from actual wear rather than the finish just failing. Garvin was...

    SilicaRich's Overland TJ Rubicon Build

Appreciate the input Dave. Speak of the devil, I am currently deciding on my transmission for the swap (discussion thread on Wrangler Forum). I initially said I was considering the NV4500, however it sounds like that might require some relatively serious cutting for fitment. Then I considered...

Jeep TJ with 2" Lift - Rooftop Tent Handling?

I've been off camber, not exactly offroad, and done serious highway driving with a nearly 13' kayak on top and never felt unstable. I figure that might be a decent enough comparisson to a RTT on top. My TJ in on a 2.5" lift and 32" tires, also a 2005. Capable of cruising 80 with the kayak on top...
