    Captive Spring Mounting Questions?

I've looked at a handful of box trucks and a lot of them are just really long U Bolts that clamp the two frames together.

    Captive Spring Mounting Questions?

@simple thank you for the pictures thats a great start, looks like the bolt is 3/4 inch, spring OD is about 1.5, and the length was probably something around 3" uncompressed. The one question I have about that is that it doesnt look like the spring would allow for much travel, based on how...

    Captive Spring Mounting Questions?

So I've been looking into the black hole of subframes and mounting methods. I think theres a good chance I'll go with a captive spring system as my chassis will be extremely rigid and I don't plan on rock crawling with my rig. (Torsion free subframe is not in the budget at the moment so I'd...

10x11.25" One Piece Super Singles? (20")

Think I might have finally settled on a chassis for my Camper Build. Its a Class 6 Truck and uses the standard 10x11.25" Lug Pattern. Does anyone make 20" Super Single wheels for Trucks like these? I know Accuride and Alcoa make 22.5" Super Single wheels which I was considering using, but I...

Freestar: Construction of a big rig !

Out of curiosity, have you tested the Autoclima Fresco 9000 yet? Every other 12v AC I've seen has very mixed reviews, but there aren't many(or any) reviews of the Autoclima in general.

    2004 Fuso FG 639 vs 649

Theres no way the automatic transmission weighs 2300 pounds more than the manual so it really doesn't make much sense. I'm mostly asking because my habitat will weigh around 5000 empty so it could approach 6000 fully loaded and I don't want it to be an issue.

Newbie needs assistance with tire choice for new to me 2020 F550 4x4 Overlander

Commercial wheels and tires much higher pressures on road than consumer tires, same is true offroad when aired down. As 180out said his "aired down" pressure is 50psi compared to a consumer tire that is usually aired down to somewhere in the neighborhood of 20psi. I can't imagine that debeading...

Newbie needs assistance with tire choice for new to me 2020 F550 4x4 Overlander

But where is your proof? I understand that in theory, the bead profile of the commercial tires could hypothetically, lead to poor bead retention but I've had a handful of people, such as 180out above, tell me, from personal experience, that theyve never had issues with bead retention at...

    2004 Fuso FG 639 vs 649

Currently considering a Fuso FG as the chassis for my build. Happened to find out a close friend of mine has a 2004 Fuso FG that he is willing to let go. Thing is, its an automatic with 5 lug wheels which would make it a 639. The sales brochure for 04 Fuso FG list the payload of the 639 as...

    C4500 Ambulance Camper

Thats interesting, I wonder how thats enforced, if at all, and if it would create an issue in the event of an accident.

    C4500 Ambulance Camper

Did you need to prove anything to them? Or they just took your word for it? I'm planning to build my rig so that the habitat is removable and either sitting on top of a flat bed or at the very least replaceable with a one. It would be purely for personal use for example, moving large items or...

    C4500 Ambulance Camper

I know theres a way that you can get a large "commercial style" vehicles re-registered as an RV or Motorhome. I'm not sure whats involved in the process, but I know I was looking at an F800 with a DIY camper that was registered as an RV.

Newbie needs assistance with tire choice for new to me 2020 F550 4x4 Overlander

I mean considering many commercial tires have tens of thousands of pounds of load on them at any given time I cant imagine that bead retention is a prevalent issue, but I've seen it mentioned a handful of times so I was a bit concerned.

Newbie needs assistance with tire choice for new to me 2020 F550 4x4 Overlander

Does anyone have any real world experience with bead retention of "consumer" tires vs commercial tires? I know pretty much anyone who travels to central and south america uses commercial tires for availability so I imagine they tend to do fairly well in most real world applications

Medium Duty Truck transmission gear ratios?

I'm looking at 2 specific trucks right now, one is a 6 speed eaton (1:1 6th gear ratio) with 4.11 axle ratios, and the other is a 6 speed allison (.65:1 6th gear ratio) with 6.14 axle ratios. The rpm vs speed relationship is fairly similar between the two so which would you choose? It sounds...

Medium Duty Truck transmission gear ratios?

I've been shopping around for Medium Duty Trucks lately. Mostly looking at Early 2000 International 7300 and 7400s. Now my question is regarding the transmission gear ratios. Pretty much all the manual transmissions I've seen in these type of trucks have 1.00:1 as the longest gear, whether 6...
