Hope Over Land and Sea: 8000 miles, 9 weeks, NC to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Badlands and more in 2023.

NC to Arkansas Our first destination was the Tom Sawyer Campground which is located in West Memphis Arkansas, located right on the river of the Mississippi and across the river from Memphis TN. We headed out on Sunday afternoon about 6pm and took I77 up to I81, west to I40 across TN. This was...

Hope Over Land and Sea: 8000 miles, 9 weeks, NC to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Badlands and more in 2023.

Alas we were not able to make it to Voyageurs and Isle Royale due to lack of planning on my part! Both of those you need to think through logistics ahead of time. Isle Royale camping is ONLY tent, whatever you can carry and take with you. Think back packing style and there is no "day trips"...

Hope Over Land and Sea: 8000 miles, 9 weeks, NC to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Badlands and more in 2023.

Remember that bit about “man is not meant to be alone?” After getting home from my soloish cruise and spending time with Mom, I decided to start thinking about, maybe sorta dating or finding a friend, companion? Honestly I had NO IDEA what I wanted to do. There are a million dating apps and...

Hope Over Land and Sea: 8000 miles, 9 weeks, NC to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Badlands and more in 2023.

After returning home in January 2023, the trip planning started in earnest and I made a few modifications to the Aliner. I knew we would be camping in a few remote locations with no hookups so I mounted a dual fuel generator and a 100 amp hour Lithium battery. To give me peace of mind for...

Hope Over Land and Sea: 8000 miles, 9 weeks, NC to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Badlands and more in 2023.

Where the Over LAND part of our adventure begins! The first big decision was that the 40’ motorhome was really too much rig for my nephew and I but we did take it out to the Jeep Jam in Pigeon Forge a few weeks later. It was our first trip without my wife and it was a bittersweet experience but...

Hope Over Land and Sea: 8000 miles, 9 weeks, NC to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Badlands and more in 2023.

“Let’s Go on an Adventure” is my current punch line to the old redneck joke, “Hey Ya’ll watch this!” This is my story and I hope you enjoy the experience and laugh, cry, curse along with me as you read about our adventures. Prequel When did you first start YOUR Overland adventure? I suspect...

    Cheapest A-Frame Camper: Build Series

I am guessing with the top folded down it will drive right out the front of that, pretty smart setup! You might even be able to add hinged section over the exit too to allow it to be folded out of the way as you go in/out and then in place to keep the snow off that corner. I have a 2021 Aliner...

MPG Numbers for 2024 Tacoma 2.4T No Hybrid

I am a bit surprised at the 12.4 towing, I towed my Aliner camper, 2500 pounds or so, similar shape, 8000 miles last summer at 60-65 mph getting 16-17mpg. I wonder if they are pulling at 70-75 where the truck is constantly shifted down to 6th or 7th gear. I picked my MPH based on my RPMs, goal...

    '24 4xe Rubicon X experience

Just a bit of experience from my 2022 4xe I wanted to share for future consideration. I spent 9 weeks towing my Aliner Scout camper during the summer of 2023 all over the USA, and ended up camping in a few places that I was on the non generator loop (Yellowstone, Grand Canyon) and/or...

Hourless Life: Documenting Our Global Overland Adventure

I will be at Overland Expo east again this year, but will be on the road for my 2 month camping trip across USA with my Nephew during West / PNW and Mtn West so not for me this year, maybe next year! Just doing the math, I need to go back and watch your container video / post and see if you...

Hourless Life: Documenting Our Global Overland Adventure

I watched a few of your recent videos specifically looking at the traffic per a suggestion by Dan Grec as I currently pull a 12' Aliner Scout camper. Based on that and his experience etc I am really re-thinking pulling anything and instead going to look pretty hard at the AT Habitat. He...

Ursa Minor J30 Wrangler vs Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Gladiator?

I am kinda digging the AT Overland Habitat for the sheer amount of room inside! There is a company called Skinny Guy that I really liked their setup at Overland Expo East too and the price points are similar for entry level. By flipping your sleeping space out of the way your entire bed is now...

Ursa Minor J30 Wrangler vs Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Gladiator?

I suspect what they are saying is compared to my gladiator solution, the ursa you are sleeping "in" the vehicle so as it gets warm your sleeping area gets warm. In the Gladiator / Alu-Cab setup that area is not connected to the heat from the Jeep.

    Skinny Guy campers.

I would love to hear any long term updates on this, I am considering it right along with Alu-cab and ursa minor J30 systems (and AT overland and four wheel camper) for a Gladiator

Ursa Minor J30 Wrangler vs Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Gladiator?

Man some really good food for thought here, Dan I appreciate your perspective and how the convertible aspect when it is your home goes to nil! Then the question becomes why a Jeep vs any other normal "truck"? Which I think you are facing now with truck #4 and planning your 4th trip. (BTW my...

Ursa Minor J30 Wrangler vs Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Gladiator?

Dan thank you so much for your in depth reply, this is super helpful from someone that has drove these exact same miles and your experience gives me a lot of confidence in your opinions. The fact that you are seeing 95% without trailers (and I am seeing this in all the books I am reading too...

Ursa Minor J30 Wrangler vs Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Gladiator?

That is awesome that the flex was minimal and basically caused no issues! I have not read all 50 pages to figure out the nitty gritty details but this is a very nice build! Having the ability to access from inside PLUS the extra room of the Gladiator is a win/win! This makes me wonder about...

Ursa Minor J30 Wrangler vs Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Gladiator?

I believe I have read both of Dan's books already, not sure I remember him talking about if he popped the top any, mostly lots of stories about the travel itself which I really enjoy. The walkaround at HourLessLife was super helpful showing their Goose-Gear and Alu-Cab setup on their Gladiator...
