Land Rover LR4 Stock Tire Sizes

Nope, never fitting 16’s on an LR4.

    Swing arm suspension?

I tend to agree when it comes to the actual suspension part. The two benefits I see are increased clearance in the center (not getting hung up on an axle tube), and being able to minimize the trailer width by needing less clearance from the inside of the tire to the frame.

    Stoves??

I haven’t seen the MSR stoves mentioned, I recently picked up one of these Whisperlite Universals and it seems ideal to me if you aren’t cooking multiple dishes for a large group. https://www.msrgear.com/stoves/liquid-fuel-stoves/whisperlite-universal/06630.html Light, compact, and can run on...

    New Defender News

Not sure if this video has been posted yet or not. I agree that the wheel spin from the traction control is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than my LR3. They state this one has no rear locker and they are using a custom TC settings. Apparently the increased wheel spin worked better on this particular...

    JLR Restructuring / Reorg

Well if you read the first article, it just says the process of manufacturing it is extremely inefficient, not that the technology doesn’t work. The same is true for ethanol, in addition to having zero redeeming qualities, but that doesn’t stop them from cramming it down everyone’s throats. For...

Help me choose a BUDGET build

Also agree on the GMT800 Tahoe/Suburban. If you want a little more off road ability, it’s worth looking at XJ’s too, but I’m not sure how they would tow 3,000 lbs in the mountains.

    1500hd/2500hd build threads?

If you’re able to do the fab work yourself and wanting to run decent sized tires, a SAS isn’t a bad idea. You could probably do it for the same $ as a 6” drop bracket lift. Ford Superduty axles are HP, driver diff, and can be commonly found for $500. If you get an ‘05+ it will be a Dana 60 and...

My take on a utility/expedition trailer.

I like everything about it besides the tailgate setup, assuming I’m interpreting it correctly that nothing removes or hinges down. How do you plan to load a riding mower, dirt bike, anything with a forklift, or unload dirt, gravel, etc? If you want the rigidity of a fixed tailgate, I’d at...

Overlanding w Toys - Options That Won't Break the Bank

I vote keep it simple. An F-450/550 with a box, and a 4’ wide welded steel platform on the back, mounted above the frame, not sticking way out there. Assuming your box is tall enough to stand in, you could have at least a 6’ long, full width ramp mounted to one side of the platform. Raise and...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Yeah, their videos are extremely disappointing. For some reason they are fully convinced that as soon as they encounter a 6” rock, they need to put it at “off road height”, which in addition to their lift rods makes it ride like a buckboard. For some reason I watched their LR3 vs Defender...

    New Defender News

For anyone still doubting the benefits of the IFS/IRS with EAS, I have a story from yesterday. My LR3 has a very similar suspension setup to the new Defender, and 32” BFG KO2’s, no HD package/rear locker. I was running 1” additional height via the GAP tool, which I upload at the trailhead. I...

New Overlander, want to stay a Ford man

You’ve got a lot going on in terms of goals. IMO, I wouldn’t want to be “full timing” with a family of 4 in anything smaller than the largest transit van, and that assumes the kids are small. Are you planning to take a 3-6 month trip, or will this be for weekend/week type deals? Will it still...

    Rovid's Trial Run

Good to see one on the wild! Interesting to hear about the body panel noises, I’ve found LR’s fastening systems with the ribbed push pins to be the most secure out there. They also seem to pad electrical connectors with foam, zip tie harnesses in place, etc. Hopefully it’s a quick fix.

    DMOS Elite Shovel Review

Yeah the same place sells threaded male/female fittings, but for a shovel a sleeve + pin setup should do the job fine.

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Up until the last couple years, fab work has involved cardboard cutouts, a drill press, and a grinder. Don’t let lack of high end equipment limit you. It’s honestly quicker to build a one off part by hand rather than drawing it out in CAD and having the machine cut it for you. If you just want...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Yes, I owned an ‘81 Bronco that was a TTB and I swapped a Dana 70 under. They do sit low from the factory, but they also have extremely wide engine crossmembers that the beams mount inside. Not to mention things like steering linkage, headers, starter motor, etc can all cause clearance issues...

    LR3 Newbie questions.

One thing I’ve enjoyed about my LR3 is that while it has needed some maintenance/repairs (largely the same as any other vehicle that’s 10+ years old) is that most of the problems seem to be caused by one particular issue, which have been well documented and make troubleshooting very simple...

    DMOS Elite Shovel Review

They seem like a waste of $ to me unless you have some sort of stringent size restraints. I carry an $11 “hobbit shovel” since it fits under my 3rd row seat, I’ve always got it. When I think there’s a higher chance of getting stuck, I throw a regular full sized fiberglass handled shovel in the...

    New Defender News

I agree with your first point, most of the mods are just cosmetic, or people will put 22” wheels with 35’s on a lifted vehicle, making it less capable than stock. The Jeep crowd around here seems mostly interested in comparing bolt on powder coated jewelry. That’s also my beef with TFL, it’s...
