My 550 build The "Ford Escape"

Well we gave the truck a real first test this weekend. Went west into the mountains. Camped along the Blackstone river. I brought my little dual sport bike and road the remaining 10 km into the mountain gap at first light. Solo sheep hunt. 9 1/2 hour hike. Only saw Grizzly bears. Road out back...

Girard tankless water heater not so good for boondocking?

I have the gen 2 Girard in my 550 build. So far we're doing the catch the cold water in the coffee pot thing. We have a road shower on the roof for warm weather showering. My fresh tank is only 20 gallons. We have just got this build up and running so time will tell. We are used to cold weather...

Got the FRP up in the bathroom yesterday morning. We had the National Search and Rescue Conference here In town the last few days. I'm the Air Operations guy so haven't had much time. Hope to get the natures head operational by the end of the weekend. We plan to head out to the mountains next...

ASME fixed propane tank orientation question

I live in a remote part of Alberta. I need to drive 3 hours to get to said dealer unfortunately. In the days when home propane was cheap here we had 3 companies locally. None left.

ASME fixed propane tank orientation question

I bought a used tank for my build. The placement of the valves and vent in relation to the "down" arrow seems opposite to me. If I turned it over all the writing and the gauge would be upside down. I went to have it filled last night and at 25 liters it appeared to be full. Some white spray...

My 550 build The "Ford Escape"

My daughter and boyfriend (both cabinet makers were up this weekend. Despite 2 long Rescues with our Mountain Rescue team we got a lot done. I figure with all the interruptions with rescues during this build I should have banked a crap load of Karma for when we actually get to use it. We have a...

Charging AGM house and flooded lead road batteries through one solar system?

First, some good thoughts. I've ordered 2 MRBF fuses for the battery sides. Good point that having only one on one battery bank but not the other will not isolate the banks and kill all current to that heavy cable if it rubs through somewhere and arcs against the frame! We run similar cable set...

Charging AGM house and flooded lead road batteries through one solar system?

Good points. My thoughts were to just isolate each battery bank. The two road batteries and the two AGM. I have cutoffs on my solar both in and out and my 12 volt house side. I plan to have a fuse/breaker on the road battery side of the line that ties the two banks together. I'm using 2 AWG to...

Charging AGM house and flooded lead road batteries through one solar system?

Snarkyness aside lol, (that's gotten more than one person a good ass kickin lol), I do know what an ACR does. I have set up every system so that I can completely isolate it. So if I pull batteries etc, I won't have a live wire! Cheers.
