Ski Bum Truck V2.0, F450 Rough Road RV

That will do it... Good thing that didn't ground somewhere.

Ski Bum Truck V2.0, F450 Rough Road RV

If you want to heat your batteries, I suggest insulation them. 1/2" foam is the minimum I think. Otherwise that 65W of heat will get lost to the atmosphere quickly. Another option is a fiber blanket. Thinsulate or similar works fine. Just don't put anything flammable within about 2" of the...

    Building a Micro-Split AC System

I modified the unit recently. Swapped to about 110" of 0.052 capillary tube, and changed the fan wiring. After a recharge the unit leaked out after a few days. I spent a long time trying to find a leak, and best I could do was a failed valve core, and a cap that had lost its O ring. Since...

    Rigid HVAC Micro DC AirCon

Not necessarily true in a vehicle. Solar gain and dehumidification of air intrusion play a large role. In cold weather air leakage and cold air from exposed sheetmetal pools on the floor, where it doesn't affect comfort as much. In how weather it pools on the ceiling, which significantly...

    Rigid HVAC Micro DC AirCon

Its really hard to get a good load calculations for a van/vehicle. Things like air exchange due to body vents or the cab AC system, thermal conduction through the body, and solar gain are tough to estimate. There is a good reason that even well insulated 5th wheel trailers need 30k+ BTUs in...

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

Another 5k miles, still rolling along. Going to have another go at refining the alignment at the next maintenance stopover in July. The aftermarket rack has a bit of play at center I want to tighten up, and maybe replace the sway bar bushings, as the center ones are getting a bit loose. I...

Fridge Controller for Danfoss/SECOP powered fridges/freezers

I haven't heard of that product, but I don't follow the marine stuff closely. It depends on the model, but without some insulation on the freezer tray, the fridge and freezer temperatures are much more closely coupled. This creates the situation where keeping the freezer nice and cold can...

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

Front is 4,100, rear is 5,100. Donor limits are 4400/5350 respectively.

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

For context the GM donor vehicle has a gvwr of 9200 pounds. That is before shock upgrades.

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

Finally got the van weighed. At absolute max load it is 9200 lb. That's about 400 lb heavier than 2wd once I accounted for some payload changes.

    Building a Micro-Split AC System

De-winterized the unit last week when someone burned off a huge field upwind of our campsite. Closed the windows and started the unit up off the inverter. Worked just fine. At some point I will recover the refrigerant and do a couple small changes. shorten the capillary tube, as its too...

    Building a Micro-Split AC System

I wasn't around enough to know. The input power was pretty consistent, so you can estimate the duty cycle from that.

Thoughts on using a 2 Wheel Drive Sprinter

There are situations where dual rear wheel provide more flotation. But this is only true if you net tire width and load ratios comparable. Duals can pick up rocks, especially aired down. Having two flats at once sucks... That being said its not very common. In most of the soft stuff...

Thoughts on using a 2 Wheel Drive Sprinter

Realistically evaluate your needs. 4wd is typically not necessary. I would argue that if you really needed it, you would already know. Given the premium 4wd vans command, I don't think its worth it for marginal usage cases.

Fridge Controller for Danfoss/SECOP powered fridges/freezers

It took about 2 weeks on and off to get the hardware together and testing it out. It was a fun project. If there was an off the shelf product that let me control both a fridge and freezer, I would have bought it! We live in our van for years at a time, so having easy to use fridge/freezer is...

Fridge Controller for Danfoss/SECOP powered fridges/freezers

They do have a modbus on some models, but it an odd proprietary format, so you would need to code your own implementation.

Fridge Controller for Danfoss/SECOP powered fridges/freezers

For results, we have been running this for 4 days now. There was some initial debug, but it appears to be working well. Ice cream stays firm, fridge stays right in the desired range. This is a 110liter fridge with BD35 compressor. With the dynamic compressor speed built into the controller...

Fridge Controller for Danfoss/SECOP powered fridges/freezers

We have a Danfoss/Secop based fridge/freezer in our van (Common to isotherm, vitrifrigo, truckfridge, indelB etc). Like most is was delivered with a garbage mechanical thermostat that kinda guessed at the freezer temp. We had to adjust winter/summer to keep the freezer cold enough, and it...

Sprinter 4x4 (Diesel) or Transit+Quigley (Petrol) for RTW

Quigley with locked center diff is the better platform in general. The mb v6 is the lesser when compared to the petrol/gasoline offerings in the USA, but that may be different with offerings in other markets.
