    Monty the 3rd Gen Montero

for the record, I was able to bleed the brakes using normal methods after my HBB motor failed. Car seemed to stop just as well as it did before I removed and repaired the motor in the HBB. I'm sure the mitsu procedure would be best, but not sure how much better it could have gotten.

    Mud Guards/Flaps for 2.5 w/sideboard removal?

I put a set of gen 2 flaps on my 99. They fit well enough. But aren't an exact fit due to the fender differences. Found them at the junk yard on an early 90s LS. Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk

Gen 3, 2003 Hydraulic Brake Booster HBB - Failure and Fix!

Hmm.... I don't remember exactly what I did... but I had the entire booster out.... maybe more pumping on the pedal and keeping the reservoir topped off? I do remember something about needing a special mitsu tool that plugs into the OBD2 and causes the system to cycle the motor..... Did...

Gen 3, 2003 Hydraulic Brake Booster HBB - Failure and Fix!

I think I read something and remember something about having to pump the brake pedal 20+ times to get the accumulator charged up.... Then from there I think it's a standard brake bleeding job... Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk

    changing rear camshaft seals

Pretty sure the 3.8 has the sensor, then 3.5 does not. But feel back on the driver's side.. If it feels the same as the passenger, then no sensor. Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk

What vehicles was the 3.5 litre used in?

You can buy the retainers from the dealer... I had to buy 4 or 5 when I did my valve seals.... Bought from an online dealer. Was under 15 bucks shipped if I recall. Found the order. Bought 10 of them here parts@mitsubishiparts.com for 84 cents a piece. Don't have a part number, but the name on...

Test run after seals and timing belt change

when installing the belt, I always seem to end up with a little slack on the driver's side while installing.... if I put the belt on with the crank gear and cam gears at the marks, the crank seems to be off... what I usually do is rotate the crank backwards (counter clockwise) about 1/2-1...

    New 1998 Winter Package

Crank pulley and crank timing gear should pull straight off... I've not had to use any kind of puller, but mine is a California car. Be sure to replace the crank pulley bolt with the new style. My timing cover gaskets were shot too.... I ordered some from a mitsu dealer. They were not...

Jack points for a 2003 Montero

Does the FSM show any jack points? I forget exactly where I put the jack when I had a gen 3, but I always had a block of wood between the jack dn where ever I was lifting at. Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk

1999 Montero Crank Position Sensor Failure

I had a bad crank sensor, and car would start intermittently and run really badly..... pegging the pedal to the floor would get it to every time.... thinking that it might over ride the computer to some default setting and ignores the sensor feedback. It could also be that I'm making a...

1999 Montero Crank Position Sensor Failure

You can replace the CAM sensor in the 99 by removing the timing belt cover on the driver's side. It's a little fiddly, but not too difficult. Also, when my crank/cam sensors were out, I read online (and confirmed) that you can mash the gas pedal to the floor and that will do some kind of...

'99 Montero - Clunk noise when turning

I don't recall exactly what fixed it, but I've replaced the ball joints (upper and lower), sway bar bushings... and I haven't had the issue year years.... going to be doing control arm bushings this week/weekend.

    More Gen 2 seat questions

Take a couple of measurements with photos showing where you measured to.... I have manual seats on my 99 (they are bouncy seats from a gen 2) I can double check the measurement on mine. I'm 6'3" and I don't find the driver's seat cramped for knee room.... But perhaps I'm just acustom to it by...

    Intake plenum questions

    1) I believe it is the DOHC motors only. Although the Gen 3, 3.6L has as butterfly as well 2) I also believe that pieces from the butterfly fall down into the cylinder area and cause untold damage to the top of the cylinder and inside of the head. 3) Yes 4) Not sure 5) If it was me, I would want...
