Dexter Axle Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly Pre Greased 8-201 Not under warranty unless installed on a Dexter Axel spindle Buyer beware

In my experience, heat and fire do not burn away grease without leaving. A bunch of asphalt-like tar and junk behind. You can do a home experiment. Try to burn a blob of grease off of something with a blow torch. It won’t go well.

Dexter Axle Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly Pre Greased 8-201 Not under warranty unless installed on a Dexter Axel spindle Buyer beware

Those bearings do not appear to be greased at all. You had an assembly failure. That should have so much grease paste in it that you can’t identify individual parts. I suspect that if your mechanic wasn’t so great and had actually taken the hub off, you would have seen and prevented this...

Dexter Axle Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly Pre Greased 8-201 Not under warranty unless installed on a Dexter Axel spindle Buyer beware

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of a trailer bearing failing and losing a wheel. The defined failure point usually happens long before the wheel comes off. You might have missed the failure, if you were on I80 at presumably high speed, it might have gone quickly to your perception. Did you...

    live in truck - power?

If you are driving most days, just cram your biggest possible battery in the car and run off that. Add a solar panel or two and you’re probably fine. 2 lonths is not long. I’ve run a fridge full time in my Jeep for almost 9 years off the starting battery, eventually adding solar panels when...

Jack options for truck camper that sits at about 46" off the ground?

Im guessing it would be better to lower it onto skates or a low profile rolling carriage of some sort than to put wheels on the bottom of relatively tall jacks with something as heavy (and expensive) as a camper that high in the air. During the time you are lowering and weight shifts you would...

M416 Build to go behind my CJ

Probably time to replace that custom plate with some variation of “Phoenix”. Rolling something that nice is sad and horrible, but thank that hitch for not taking your truck over with it!

    New Power System Opinions

Without doing a bit of research, I can’t directly equate CCA Ratings and actual short term cold-weather power draw, but I would be really surprised if a 5.3 with proper cold weather lubrication, a good ignition system, and a gear reduction starter drew more than 300 amps to start. Maybe 350. I...

    New Power System Opinions

On the kind of trip you are thinking about, simple is better (and imho more important) than options. I would stick with your group 31 and solar plan, although if you can roof mount your solar for full time use you might be happier. I’ve had a similar system on my daily driver Jeep for years...

    May need a new battery?

Beware the quality and training of both the tester and the operator at a place like Autozone. You can get those that are very good, and those that are useless. However, based on your description and battery age, I would just make the bet and buy a battery. my experience has been that even with...

    SuperSprings

How fast are you going in cornering to feel unstable? What are you used to driving that feels more stable? Have you followed your rig while someone else drives it to see if your porpoise action is visible from the outside. If it isn’t, I would personally guess that the better answer is “get...

    Camp Table

Can you define what “pack away” means to you? My best camp tables have always been the folding plastic ones from virtually any big box store. Cheap, light, easy to clean, stable, and can be stored under or on top of other gear. I made a slot in my trailer rack to hold a 6’ table and love it.

Are older Land Rover Discoveries really that bad? How do they compare to contemporary Toyotas?

I haven’t owned any discos, only much older Series rovers and a small handful of other British cars. All I can say is that British engineering seems uniquely … British. Buy it and you’ll quickly know what I mean. One thing that has always struck me as interesting, Jeep and Toyota build...

Warn winch brand mount for a trailer?

It is a simple steel plate, I’m not sure rating really applies. I guess the real question is for you to answer, how are you mounting it to the trailer? In my opinion, I have one of these plates and have used them on projects, it is fine for a 12k winch as long as it has the right hole pattern...

Warn winch brand mount for a trailer?

Harbor freight makes a very good universal winch plate for about 1/3 that cost that could be bolted or welded across the tongue or front of a trailer.

    Gladiator Electric brake controller

Isn’t there an integrated Mopar option for Gladiator. I’ve had several fords with factory brake controllers and love them. In my JK I’m running the Tekonsha P3 And really like it.

Cargo Basket / Roof Rack for Expedition Trailer

Kicking this around for a few days and I have a question: Does your AC unit vent upward? Are you impeding airflow if you put something above it? Than might be a bad idea overall?

From JLRU with roof-rack RTT to what?

I would say that 95+% of your problem was the spacer lift kit. A real suspension would have made driving that no big deal in my opinion. In answer to your other questions: I saw virtually no mileage change when I moved my tent from the top of Jeep to trailer. I liked driving without the...

    Overkill Campers

It isn’t just campers. Many skilled craft people find themselves in this predicament. Unfortunately, they are in an echo chamber of friends and relatives when showing off the first couple of units and nobody ever tells them that they lack the experience, intelligence, and ruthlessness required...

Is the roof tent trend over?

For me the big pro was no sticks, rocks, holes, lumps in the floor. And I never really quit making tree forts, so this one is just fun to have with me camping. I admit I don’t use it nearly as much as I would like to, but that has more to do with the wedding cake I ate long ago than the...

Cargo Basket / Roof Rack for Expedition Trailer

Okay, so your best bet is probably to buy the biggest commercial unit and then add, or have someone add, hoops to raise the tent. Remember that high sides are no good if they keep you from putting stuff in and out. My “open” height is about 10” and is probably less than ideal, as it makes it...
