Send a msg to "Redline" here on EXPO. He has a ton of knowledge and experience with diesel truck options. He currently has Dodge 3500 that is locked and lifted with a Hallmark Camper on it. An awesome rig. :-)

You can lock the exchange rate when you put down your deposit or let it float. All the customs paperwork is handled bu Kimberley. Once cleared, they move the trailer out to a private warehouse where you pick it up. No CA taxes. The only tax I paid was when registering it in Arizona. That...

Right. With the current exchange rate you can get a fully loaded Karavan delivered to Long beach for about $55K. I still feel this was the best purchase I ever made and plan to enjoy it for years to come.

Yep, mine is the extended. I had talked about the Beouin and then changed and the recent one that went to Boise had the Bedouin awning. Bruce has a lot on his plate so some of the details can slip by at times. :-)

Hi Ken, I just checked the exchange rate and today it is saying the US dollar = 1.40 Ausie dollars. That would knock a price tag of $75K all the way down to $45K. Did you get that exchange rate on your purchase? That is an awesome discount!:Wow1::Wow1:

Awesome Ken! We will have to find an opportunity to camp together sometime.

So true Pat. I still don't get why a few US companies don't build off road quality like the Ausies do. There is a market for them here.

Anytime Ken. The current exchange rate gives us a serious discount. If you ever considered purchasing one, now is definitely the time. I would be amazed if the exchange rate get significantly better than it is now. The added amenities are nice but the biggest thing I like about the karavan...

Zyane, Thanks. You can see the photos for most of my other trips in the camping galleries on my website: bgarland.smugmug.com The reliability for me has been great. The only major problem I have had was the detonated wheel I had earlier this year. Go with either steel wheels or use a known...

Yeah, some awesome guy helped me score a full set of matching Toyota wheels to my 4Runner. I have no idea who that could have been. :sombrero:

Healed and ready to play again I had the damaged fender replaced last week and the new hub/rotor was installed today. That was the last of the carnage repairs. Ready for the next adventure now.

John, Hit up Bruce for any configuration and import questions. Bruce Loxton <bruce.loxton@kimberleygroup.com.au> I also looked at South African trailers before I went with Kimberley. I found none of them were willing to convert to US 110VAC and they didn't have the import experience that...

    Birth of My Kimberley Karavan

Thanks. It has been quite the journey. :-) I am still very happy with my purchase and would do it again. Especially now that the currency exchange rate is so much on our favor. To answer your questions: Why did you opt for a/c unit here? I have only used it a few times. You need to be...

    Birth of My Kimberley Karavan

Thanks. I too am glad all the carnage is just easily replaceable parts. The main frame, suspension and body of the Karavan had zero damage. My skid plate over the rear water tank did a little "reforming" after the Dollhouse trip but that an easy deal. Considering I have still been working...

I agree. most of the Ausie guys that push it, run steel wheels. I want to be able to swap between my Karavan and 4Runner so I think the Toyota wheels will give me the strength I am looking for. I have never seen a Toyota wheel fail, even after years of abuse. That and toning down my driving...

Bad Day In The Backcountry I think the abuse the wheels took on the Dollhouse trip started a nasty failure scenario. Here is a summary of what happened on my last trip which was just few weeks after getting back from the Canyonlands. I was playing with my son and another father son duo...
