This isn't an outside solution, but I throw a trash bag into one of my larger backpacks and strap that to the back of my passenger seat. Sort of a smaller, interior TrashaRoo. I'm on the same boat as you - no rear spare carrier.

I have an 04 Limited V8 and have had minimal problems that I couldn't fix myself (with help from T4R.org, etc!). You'll be coming on the timing chain replacement at 100k miles, if you get a V-8, but other than that, you should be good to go for a couple hundred thousand miles! I wheel with guys...
