Surface Pro 4 announcement Oct 6

I thought it was interesting too ... until I priced out one with a i5, 8gb ram and the discrete graphics option - $1900!!!

    Trouble with new circuit/relay

I may be missing something, but it looks like both 85 and 86 are both connected to ground? Typically 85 is your ground for the relay, and 86 is a +12V switched trigger wire. If you want to use 'switched ground' to control the relay, I believe 30 and 86 both get connected to constant +12V, and...

LED Strip lighting on the vehicle.

I used these LED strip lights on the inside of my camper shell, probably one of the most-used things I've done! http://www.amazon.com/LEDwholesalers-Flexible-LED-Ribbon-2026ww-31k/dp/B002QQ48TK/ They're bright enough I added a dimmer...

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

Whoa there tiger, no need to get argumentative :) I'm using a fabricated header and the ARP bolts. I'm going to make the cut in the flange to split the flange, seems like a good idea seeing that's how the stock cast iron manifolds were split. I'm confident if I don't overtorque things the ARP...

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

I thought about using exhaust studs, but it would increase the clearance needed to remove the headers and I'm trying to minimize intrusion into the footwell area since there's already limited foot room in these old trucks. The bolts that came on the motor were rusty enough I'm surprised they...

    The other 80

Nice truck, I love seeing these old Scouts out getting used. Your story hit home hard - my wife and I also lost our first born son. It took a lot to heal those wounds but his little brother joined our family 10 weeks ago, whose name happens to be Ethan. And since then my wife has been telling...

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

Thanks for the input and advice guys - I like the idea of splitting the manifolds, and I already have a set of ARP header bolts in hand :) I feel like these updates suck lately, but as some of you know babies are a bit of a time sink. Motor is in and bolted up to the transmission. I built new...

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

Finished mocking up the seat position, shifter and got the Suburban Tilt steering column into place, driving position feels pretty good. Still need to make mounts to bolt down the column and make the seat mounts, I want to tie those into the cage so that may come a ways later. I might shorten...

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

Yup, one of the selling points for me for this specific motor was how complete it is, down to the drive by wire throttle and controller. It's out of a 2004 Silverado.

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

I've run the numbers, and with 35's, 4.56 gears in the axles, I'll be at 2250 rpm at 70 in 5th gear (0.73) and 3000 rpm in 4th (1:1). These trucks (modern 1/2 ton v8s) cruise at under 2k rpm at highway speeds with stock gearing and tires, so I figure the bump in revs will account for the tire...

Funny I was just reading through your build thread (again) to find out what fuel pump, headers and engine mounts you used :)

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

Ding ding, winner. I have a 5.3 out of a Silverado (LM7) on the way, which is really the motor I wanted in the first place. Since I started this project they have become a lot more available so I pulled the trigger. May as well build it how I really want to. Now who wants a TBI 350? :)

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

Well time for another long overdue update, this time I have a good excuse though :) My wife and I had out first child, a healthy baby boy named Ethan. I took a month off of work, and I've managed to sneak some garage time in when the wife and baby are napping throughout the day. I finished...

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

Dang, I really like your build. I have a huge soft spot for FJ55's, I really would like to build one some day. The size of the body didnt really fit with what I want my truck to do but they are cool as all heck.

I obviously don't have any long term feedback, but lizardskin cures rock hard when compared to most bedliner type coatings. I will be doing bedliner on the inside of the cab as well. Hoping the combination of both helps with NVH in this old truck. I'm going to spray a top coat on the...

    All-Purpose Scout 80 build

Thanks all, the comments and encouragement are good motivation to keep going. This is really my first project of this magnitude, and as to fab skills well pretty much everything has been learned during the course of working on this truck, other then a set of rock sliders I built for my old T100...
