Slightly unrelated to my build thread, I'd like to congratulate my dog Guinness on his first successful "Trail Dog Challenge." We mountain biked 7 miles together, passing other people and dogs and squirrels and birds, unleashed without issue. He was a rescue and is now about 2 years old. It was...
While I am waiting for the RCI Metalworks skids, I decided I might as well fix my rear sway bar links. Because stock length is now too short with the lift, they basically have begun to pull apart at the joint. That wear and tear and extra play equals noise when hitting bumps so for about $30 I'm...
This was a great weekend - I feel that my "shakedown" phase is mostly complete and my truck is running in top form. I fixed a rattle in my steering wheel by following this link: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/57115-steering-wheel-knock.html - a very well spent 20 minutes.
I had an...
Magnaflow. It looks good and keeps exhaust from getting in the truck with the back window down. It has a great tone but is loud and can get annoying on extended road trips.
I haven't had a good chance to flex the suspension, but yes, the first instance of rubbing is at the back of the front fender just inside the wheel well.
Trouble in paradise. My factory skids are toast - they were in rough shape before last weekend but now they are mangled, torn, and hanging off my truck on one side. I just ordered up a full set of RCI Metalworks skids in 3/16" steel sans gas tank skid to solve the issue...I'm very excited. Here...
Hey - I think you clearly have your answer by now...that white tacoma was the inspiration for my recent wheel project on my 4Runner. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I'm running 17" FJ Steelies with 255 80 17 KM2's - gloss white industrial grade rustoleum with lots of prepping :-)
My baby got her new shoes this morning. Refinished FJ Steelies with 1.25" spidertrax spacers and 255 80 17 KM2's. No rubbing yet and I really dig the look, but haven't had the truck on the trails yet. Gas mileage immediately went up about .7-1MPG and the thinner tire makes my truck's power...
Made a last minute tire change after much debate. Going with the 255 80 17 KM2's after all. Nothing against TreadWright...I just want to try the KM2's. Hopefully going on this weekend.
The Treadwright is an aggressive all-terrain. Lazz runs them on his Rover and would buy them again. I ran the VOT with Nitto Terra Grapplers at 6/32" tread and had a blast - they were damn near racing slicks. Even with a hard compound, the Guard Dogs will provide 500% more traction than what I...
I found some unimproved roads in Danby, Dorset, Manchester, and Sandgate, VT today and introduced my mom to wheeling. She had a bottle of water with her, and after a particularly difficult rock ledge climb said, "I should have brought something stronger to drink." Great sense of humor! She had a...
I spend most of my time in Vermont and New Hampshire where the trails can get fairly nasty. Vermont is very rooty and often wet, with lots of exposed bedrock. I wheeled Wisconsin extensively with all-terrains and never had a problem. New England is a different animal - most folks around here...
Let me know if you head east. My family lives a few hours north as well - my parents are near Manchester, VT and my gf's family in Meredith, NH. There are trails all over the place.
I have 1.25" spacers now that I plan to keep on the truck. I love the stance...
I'm a little nervous to run the...
