Yeah that's a tough decision. I have the same engine (and earlier one at that) and don't have any oil burning issues. I've done trips to Utah and CO from SoCal without needing a drop of oil (nothing significant) and I have 146k miles on mine. Unfortunately though that's the thing with buying...
